Christmas Storm 2016: The Gift That Keeps On Giving
A massive winter storm pounded Utah with wind and snow on Christmas Eve. We awoke the next morning to a White Christmas and some impressive snow totals across the state. Three days after the storm and the skiing is still great out there.

I skied Park City Mountain on Christmas Day and Solitude Mountain Resort on Monday before venturing out into the backcountry on Tuesday.

Check out the video above to see for yourself. I even wrote a little holiday-inspired story to go along.

The Night Before Christmas 2016 - by Après Adam
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the state
not a ski bum was sleeping, with so much at stake.
The ski socks were hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that they would dry in time for first chair.

Skiers and boarders nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of face-shots danced in their heads.
I poured a drink, Matt checked his weather models,
we made plans for the morning over a couple of bottles.

When out on the deck there appeared fresh snowflakes
Matt sprang from his bed to check the snow stakes.
Away to the window he flew like a flash,
Like a small child, but bald and with beard and mustache.

The moon reflected off the new-fallen snow
We debated our first runs and where we should go
Eagle Point got three feet, Deer Valley got two.
Powder Panic set in, we weren't sure what to do.

With the UDOT plow drivers, not quite finished the canyons just yet
We decided Park City Mountain was our best bet
Skipping Payday and Eagle, we sprinted to Crescent,
Skated to Pioneer without wasting a second.

"Now Scott! Now Matt!
Past Kevin and Ben!
“Go Mason! Go J-Mo!”
Skate until you win
From the drop of Jupiter rope
Till you run out of air
There’s no way in hell
We’re missing first chair!

We skated and skated and grimaced and cried
when we caught up with Jerry, we forced him to the side
A few people in front took an unexpected spill,
And the Powder Posse won the Chinese Downhill!

And then, we boarded the lift and heckled the crowd
First chair on Jupiter, Jeremy Would be proud
As we approached the top and looked all around
How do you choose the perfect line to ski down?

We unloaded the chair and buckled our boots,
Then skated to Scott’s Bowl navigating the whoops
We picked up our skis and without looking back
Practically ran up the entire bootpack

Reaching the top we surveyed Main Bowl
Taking note of the bomb-holes left by Patrol
We clicked in our skis and lined up in a row
Looking down on lines-upon-lines of untouched snow.

We claimed our lines, each one was unique
That bragged about being the best skiers on the Peak.
I took some photos of my line to make everyone jelly
Then dropped in and skied like I was being filmed by a heli.

The snow was as deep as any day I could remember
The best I’d ever skied on the 25th of December.
I caught some air, threw a twister and a spread
“That looked extreme”, or at least I thought in my head.

I skied to the runout and let out a “yeww!”
Skied past stoked skiers and boarders, high-fiving a few.
I wiped the snow from my goggles and out of my nose,
Then skied to the lift and turned off all three GoPros.

We got back in line and I bragged I boasted
About my sick line and the sweet ‘Gram I just posted
“I’m the best skier here” I claimed and rode the lift out of sight
Merry Christmas to all, drinks are on me tonight!”
