Fireplaces, gourmet dinners and lots of epic snow....yup, a ski vacation is an ideal romantic escape.

While many resorts offer some type of package for couples, a few specialize in romance. One that has it down is Sundance Resort.

Founded in 1969 by Robert Redford, Sundance offers elegant simplicity surrounded by 5,000 scenic areas of wilderness. That said, simplicity doesn’t preclude elegance. The Tree Room at Sundance features sophisticated mountain cuisine in a romantic, candlelit dining room.

Of course we are talking a ski vacation here, so let’s talk about the mountain. With 42 runs, ranging from beginner to expert, on over 450 acres of scenic terrain, there is fun for everyone. They also offer lessons at all levels, which may, or may not be a good idea to do as a couple. I’ve had good experiences learning with my sweetie, but I’ve also seen couples dissolve into silence.

At the end of the day, relax and indulge with a couples massage by the Spa at Sundance. Now that would be romantic!

Sundance isn’t the only Utah resort to cater to couples; Snowbird offers a Sweetheart’s Getaway and Valentine’s Dine and Stay packages. They also have a spa and elevated dining options. I’ve enjoyed decadent holiday dinners at Snowbird, in addition to regular fare; their chefs are first rate.

With 14 resorts across the state to choose from, you’re bound to find new package options regularly.

Romantic escapes aren’t just for winter at Utah’s ski resorts. Visit off-season and fill your days with hiking, cycling, wildflowers, or horseback riding. This is also when you can find some stellar deals.

Don’t wait for an excuse like Valentine’s Day, step up your game and surprise your sweetie with a romantic ski getaway when he or she least expects it!
