The Little Storm that Could- Gets a ton of Terrain open!

The "Little Storm that Could"
You've got to love when meteorologists get a bad forecast, wrong. Going into the weekend, I was bummed about what I was seeing on the 7-day. While the snow and cold were a part of the equation, Utah's mountains were only supposed to get 4-8 inches. We all know, beggars can't be choosers, but if you know me, you know I’m kind of a psycho when it comes to snow. I want a lot, and I want it now!
This year, The Weather Channel has decided to name the big winter storms, and while I like the idea it seems more like a publicity stunt. But, I have a suggestion for the good folks over at the Weather Channel for this storm, it should be named, "The Little Storm that Could." It's now Tuesday evening, and snowfall totals are over 2 feet at Alta located in the Cottonwood Canyons, and right around a foot at the Park City area resorts. Powder Mountain and Snowbasin are also getting in on the action.
This weekend, a group of friends and I got a place at Lakeside Luxury Resort Condos in Huntsville.
If you are like me, and thought Snowbasin was just a day trip... think again. About a dozen of us spent the night in two amazing condos, complete with hot tub and awesome amenities.
While we struck out in the new snow department on Saturday, that was not the case Sunday morning. Overnight, Snowbasin picked up close to half a foot of new snow. As we headed home from our fun weekend in Huntsville, we saw Snowbasin was skiing top to bottom, and the mountain was plastered in white.
Since that time I’ve been getting reports from all over the Wasatch about additional terrain openings. Here's the list of what I’ve compiled so far.
Park City will open the East Face of Jupiter Peak on Tuesday and Jupiter Lift by Friday or Saturday!
Canyons just opened, The Orange Bubble Express, Short Cut Lift, Doc’s Run and The Drain as of Tuesday afternoon.
Alta pretty much has the entire resort up and running with the exception of Devils Castle
Snowbird will open, Gad2 on Wednesday, Mineral Basin Thursday and the brand spanking new Little Cloud High Speed Quad on Friday morning!
So folks, there IS snow in Utah, and LOTS of it! Alta's year to date snowfall is 115" last year it took till January 19th to record that much snow!
Here is what Alta looked like Monday and Tuesday.
