Today Randy Reynolds and I headed out to the Alta backcountry on a search for untracked snow. We headed out the Supreme gate and traversed over to Rocky Point. I like this area a lot because I can usually find good snow, even if it hasn’t snowed for a while. It is also a pretty easy hike. When we got there the snow was untracked but firmer than I was hoping for. The wind had buffed out most of the east facing slopes. We found a couple pockets of soft snow on some ridges and in the trees. The open face that we skied was really buffed out. The firm snow prevented us from opening it up. We made a few extra turns down the face and cut left over to the boot pack. We boot packed out and then dropped back inbounds and headed over to Supreme. The snow could have been better but it was still a lot of fun. We skied a few lines and scouted a few lines that we will hit when we get more snow. As a wise man once said, "When the going gets tough, go skiing!" Looks like thinks are about to change with a massive winter storm in the forecast to start off the week! We could be seeing a couple of feet at the resorts. Click above to watch video shot today by Randy Reynolds.
