I spent the last two days shredding the new snow at Solitude, my old stomping grounds. What a great time. Old friends, lots of great powder, and no crowds. Seriously, I wasn't in a lift line for more than 30 seconds all weekend. The resort was reporting 22 inches in 24 hours. On top of what they had the day before it was more like 33 inches and a couple of times I got a little stuck but that was because I was in snow up to my nipples. No lie.
Here is a video that Solitude marketing genius, Nick Como shot. I'm the snowboarder obviously, the skier is a girl named Beth. Every run of the day was like this, untracked and bottomless. I got on about the 5th chair of the day on the quad and after a few runs they opened the ridge to hiking, and then 20 minutes later they opened the Powder Horn chair. Check it out.
It looks like a good chance of snow throughout the week. For Christmas all I really want is a good base and a never ending cycle of storms until the end of April. Is that too much to ask Santa for?
