Library to the Lift: Deer Valley

by Ski Utah Yeti April 7 2014 0 Comments

Hey Y’all! I’m Katie Vogt a senior at the University of Utah in the College of Health. For the last three ski seasons I have had the opportunity to work at Deer Valley Ski Resort. Out of the numerous jobs I have had, this experience has been like no other. Deer Valley encompasses the “Deer Valley Difference” which tends to leave guests in amazement with the service they receive at Deer Valley. In order for the guests to leave happy the company must make their employees happy and trust me when I say they do just that.

From the groomed runs down Bald Mountain to the powder stashes in Lady Morgan Bowl, there is a place for every skier at DV. Deer Valley is consistently ranked top in the nation for their grooming capabilities. The superior groomed runs bring a hidden secret that many skiers never think of… powder for days. While at some resorts, making first chair is your only shot at hitting the best powder stashes, at Deer Valley that is surely not the case. Most of the clientele DV serves make first chair to produce the first tracks down the well renowned Deer Valley groomers, leaving the powder hound areas untouched. I can think of many times where I have found untouched powder days after a storm. One unique perk that Deer Valley offers their guests are the mountain tours. If you come to Deer Valley with little familiarity of the vast terrain, don’t worry, the Mountain Hosts offer tours in a variety of ability levels free of charge! If you are wanting to find that fresh pow, but just aren’t quite sure where to find it, the Mountain Hosts will show you the way.

Food! Food at Deer Valley is not something to miss out on. The famous Deer Valley Turkey Chili is worth taking a ski break for. While DV has its fine dining sit down experiences that may break the bank, the ski in/ski out dining is hard to beat. It certainly may be more expensive than your typical fast food restaurant, but in comparison to other resorts the prices are relatively equal and the DV food is by far more exquisite.

When skiing at Deer Valley, you are treated with the highest service possible. Whether a celebrity or a college student, everyone feels like royalty when skiing the difference. Besides the great skiing and friends I have made through Deer Valley, as a college student I love being able to put the stresses and struggles that we all find through our college career off to the side and enjoy the service Deer Valley offers. Deer Valley has become my home away from home and is the place where I can relieve the stress college can bring.
