PowderTwins visit Canyons

by Ski Utah Yeti December 20 2011 3 Comments

Hi, this is Anna.  I had a fabulous time at Canyons Resort.  We celebrated our birthday at Canyons and it could not have been better.  Yes, Canyons…not The Canyons anymore.  We’ve skied here many times because we spent two years taking lessons in their ski school, but this was our first time back since they’ve made a lot of changes.  Let me tell you about them.

The new Orange Bubble Express is supremely awesome.   They have this new lift that covers you in a plastic shield to protect you from the wind and snow, and it has heated seats.  If you like heated seats in a car, you’ll love them on a ski slope.  You get to the top of the lift feeling nice and toasty.  I’ve included a picture of the orange bubble in the video below.

They have also changed the village area so the Gondola is right by the Cabriolet, so it’s easier to get from the parking lot to the top of the mountain.  But more importantly, they have put in a Chocolate Bar right by the Gondola.  This place has the best hot chocolate I have ever had.  They have so many flavors I had to take a picture of the menu.  My favorite was the Drift Away which has peppermints and Oreos.
Of course, the skiing was a lot of fun too.  One of the really funny parts was skiing with Murdock the Moose, the Canyon’s mascot.  Murdock’s favorite foods are trees and hamburgers at the Red Pine Lodge, and because he is a “real” moose he does not talk.  However, you can walk up to him and squeeze his horn.  He is also a great skier, and teaches kids about being safe on skis and protecting the earth’s environment.  If you see him while skiing at Canyons he loves to take pictures with people.  I think it is fun to have a moose as their mascot because we have seen real moose while skiing at Canyons a couple of times.

Hi again, this is Jacob and I also had a great birthday skiing at Canyons.  While we were there we did some fun extra adventures, like zip lining.  They have these new zip lines that take you speeding through the trees by the ski runs near the Red Pine Lodge.  The biggest zip line is over 2000 feet long and takes you over a huge canyon.  You are really high up, but you are safe because the chords are strong enough to hold a jumbo jet.  You can get going really fast, and I loved it because I beat my dad and sister in our races.
I also had fun doing tricks in their terrain park.  I like the one at Canyons because they have some parts that are a good size for kids.  I did a 180 and that is in the video, but I did not land it as well as I wanted to so I’ll try again next time.

After skiing, we stayed in The Grand Summit hotel right on the mountain and swam in their outdoor pool.  I always think it is fun to swim outside when there is snow everywhere.  We then went back to our room and were about to fall asleep, when someone knocked on our door.  Murdock sent us a birthday cake – that was really cool.

If you are a kid you’ll have a great time at Canyons.  There is so much to do, the resort is ginormous, and the skiing is great.  Please let us know if you have any questions in the comments below.  You can also follow us on Twitter at @PowderTwins.
