WHAT: Deer Valley Resort is preparing to host the 2008 Visa Freestyle International World Cup Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 2, 2008. More than 200 athletes from approximately two dozen countries will participate in the competitions. This World Cup marks Deer Valley’s 10th Anniversary of hosting freestyle competition, including the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, the 2003 FIS Freestyle World Championships, 1999 Chevy Truck U.S. Freestyle Championships and five World Cups (2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007). As well as the first World Cup ski cross ever to take place in North America.
WHEN: February 1-2, 2008
Aerials:
Spectators can enjoy the aerial competition on Friday, February 1. The women’s aerial qualifications take place from 1 to 1:50 p.m., and the men’s aerial qualifications from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., both on White Owl ski run. Women’s aerial finals will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and the Men’s aerial finals will be held from 7 to 7:30 p.m., with awards for both women and men immediately following the competition in the finish area at approximately 7:45 p.m. . The exciting evening will end with live musical entertainment by Hell’s Belles, on the venue stage from 8 to 8:50 p.m. followed by a fireworks display at 8:50 p.m.
Ski Cross:
The first North American World Cup ski cross will take place on Solid Muldoon ski run at Deer Valley Resort. Spectators can catch the men’s and women’s ski cross qualifications on Friday, February 1 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Men’s and women’s ski cross finals will then be held on Saturday, February 2 from 11 a.m. to noon. Awards will take place in the finish area at approximately 12:05 p.m., immediately followed by a press conference in the Northside Room in Snow Park Lodge.
Dual Moguls:
Also on Saturday, February 2, Deer Valley Resort will host the women’s and men’s dual mogul event on Champion ski run. Women’s dual mogul qualifications will take place from 3:25 to 4:10 p.m., men’s dual mogul qualifications will be held from 4:25 to 5:45 p.m. Dual mogul finals for both women and men will take place from 7 to 8 p.m., with awards immediately following, at approximately 8:05 p.m. Live musical entertainment will be provided by De La Soul from 8:20 to 9:05 p.m. and the evening will end with fireworks at 9:05 p.m.
COST: General admission tickets to all events are free to the public. For those guests looking for an enhanced spectator experience, Freestyle Feast tickets are still available for Saturday’s ski cross competition at a cost of $65. Tickets include lunch in the VIP tent and a commemorative gift. Freestyle Feast tickets are currently on sale and may be purchased over the phone by calling 435-645-6510, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
WHERE: Champion, White Owl and Solid Muldoon ski runs are located on Deer Valley’s lower Bald Eagle Mountain, just up from the main day lodge (Snow Park Lodge) on Deer Valley Drive.
