The Utah Department of Workforce Services today named Canyons Resort – a Talisker Mountain destination – as one of “Utah’s Best Places to Work” during its 13th annual Utah Work/Life Award ceremony.
Canyons Resort was presented the Utah Work/Life Award in the Large Employer category (500+ employees). The Work/Life Award honors companies that create exceptional workplaces by effectively addressing employee work/life needs and striving to provide a culture of equity and opportunity. The Department of Workforce Services announced that “this is one of the most prestigious, rigorous workplace awards in the country.”
Canyons Resort managing director Mike Goar accepted the award on behalf of the 2,000 employees of the four-season resort.
“At Canyons, we strive to create one of a kind memorable experience for our guests,” Goar said. “We believe that creating a positive, flexible and caring work environment directly affects the engagement our Guides (employees) and the service they deliver. By taking this inside-out approach, our Guides are consistently given high marks for service and friendliness on guest surveys and rank near the top nationally.”
Canyons, which implemented more on-mountain enhancements than any North American ski resort in 2011, received this Work/Life Award in its first year of eligibility. Utah’s largest ski and snowboard resort, Canyons dynamic range of amenities includes five world-class hotels, more than a dozen dining venues including The Farm, which sources its fine cuisine from within 200 miles of Park City; the Orange Bubble Express, which is North America’s most technologically advanced and first heated chairlift; the fast-paced ZipTour adventure and the vibrant base village called Ski Beach.
“While much of the news has been about our mountain enhancements, this award is a testament to the investment we have made in our Guide (employee) experience,” Goar said. “This has paid huge dividends in our retention rates for both year-round and seasonal guides.”
The other winners in the “Large Employer” category are: MVCI Owner Services, South Davis Community Hospital, 1-800 CONTACTS, Automatic Data Processing and Mountain America Credit Union, and Nicholas & Co.
