SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- The Ski Utah Fifth Grade Passport and Sixth Grade SnowPass are the best ways for fifth and sixth graders to experience The Greatest Snow on Earth. Fifth graders can ski three times free at each of Utah’s 13 world-class resorts utilizing the Passport. Sixth graders can continue to enjoy one day of free snowriding at each Utah ski resort with the SnowPass.
Ski Utah also offers an in-school learn to ski and ride program for fourth graders. For the first time, Ski Utah has introduced a fundraising promotion in hopes of spreading this unique program to more schools in Utah. In trying economic times, some schools cannot afford the fees associated with the program. As a result, Ski Utah has introduced the “Flake Your Friends” fundraiser in hopes of raising money for these schools and families.
Donors can visit the Ski Utah website to make donations to the school program. Donations of $50 or more will earn the chance to “Flake a Friend.” Five large snowflakes will be delivered for every $50 donated to the yard of a friend or family member selected by the donor. Ski Utah’s flakes will spread across Utah as a token of gratitude for helping more children have the opportunity to enjoy The Greatest Snow on Earth.
On October 24, 2009, Ski Utah participated in "Boo at the Zoo," Hogle Zoo’s annual Halloween celebration. BYU Recreation Management students handed out information concerning the 5th and 6th grade programs from an igloo booth that they created. BYU students are also assisting with the Ski Utah “Flaking Fundraiser.”
Interested donors should visit http://www.skiutah.com/winter/locals/flaking/index.html. Parents interested in the 5th Grade Passport and Sixth Grade SnowPass can download an application by visiting http://www.skiutah.com/winter/locals/index.html. A small processing fee applies for both the Passport and SnowPass.
Each year 8,000 Utah students participate in the Ski Utah Passport and SnowPass programs thanks to support from KSL-TV, KSL News Radio, Zions Bank, Richard E. and Nancy P. Marriott Foundation, Pictureline, The Truth About Tobacco, Powerade, Ski’N’See, Canyon Sports, Rossignol, Burton and Smith Optics.
