Ogden, Utah - The Far West Ski Association (FWSA) invites the community to participate in its 80th Annual Convention at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center, June 7-10, 2012. Activities open to the public during the three-day event include a new Far West Film Fest, a day program, and a silent auction offering more than $100,000 in affordable travel packages for bid.
The silent auction and dance will take place on Friday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees can bid on sports gear as well as more than $100,000 in ski and travel packages. Guests may meet with local and regional snowsports clubs. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the local Snowbasin Adaptive Sports Education Foundation. The event is free and open to the public.
A Day Program will take place on Saturday, June 9 from 8:30 until 4 p.m. For the special price of $50, attend a travel expo, luncheon, multi-media presentation, FWSA Snowsports Leadership Academy and a public affairs panel session. The panel consists of representatives from the U.S. Forest Service discussing current issues relating to public land development, ski history, ski safety and snowsport legislation.
New this year, the Association presents the first Far West Film Fest on Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 1 to 5 p.m. for $12. Proceeds will be donated to Can Do MS, Women’s Ski Jumping USA and Make a Hero Foundation. The following films will be screened:
· “Can Do: The Legacy of Jimmie Heuga,” a story of how Jimmie changed the lives of those living with MS.
· “Ready to Fly,” a story about Women’s Ski Jumping USA featuring Lindsey Van and Deedee Corradini.
· “The Movement,” a story about disabled athletes features Rick Finkelstein, produced by Kurt Miller, narrated by Warren Miller and Robert Redford.
Special guests slated to participate in the event include Billy Kidd (1964 Olympic silver medalist), Richard Neustedter (executive director of Can Do MS), Kurt Miller (film producer and director and Make a Hero founder) and Deedee Corradini (president of Women’s Ski Jumping USA).
