SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- Ski Utah hosted its annual local media day at Snowbasin Resort this past Friday, March 18, 2011. The event is designed to recognize Utah’s local media support of the Utah ski and snowboard industry.
Each year at the event, Ski Utah presents two awards to media members who have significantly aided the promotion of The Greatest Snow on Earth®. The Excellence in Journalism award is given to a media member who best shares their love for skiing and snowboarding with their audience. This year’s recipient is Brett Prettyman of The Salt Lake Tribune. Prettyman, an outdoor columnist for the paper, constantly produces positive news stories about Utah’s ski and snowboard resorts. Prettyman has been with The Salt Lake Tribune for nearly 21 years and has a communications degree from the University of Utah in the News Editorial Sequence with a minor in Recreation and Leisure (currently Parks, Recreation and Tourism).
In addition to the Journalism Award, Ski Utah also honors a Weather Enthusiast of the Year. This award is given to the person who best celebrates Utah’s winter weather and encourages their audience to embrace The Greatest Snow on Earth®. This year’s recipient is KSL-5 Meteorologist Kevin Eubank. Eubank’s love of weather stemmed from watching his father Mark forecast weather. Eubank has continued the family tradition and shares his love of Utah snow with his audience. Kevin Eubank has been with KSL since 2006 and was graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Meteorology.
“We feel so fortunate to have such great relationships with our local media,” stated Ski Utah President Nathan Rafferty at the event. “Their efforts are integral to building awareness of the state’s ski and snowboard product.”
Media guests also enjoyed excellent conditions on the slopes of Snowbasin followed by lunch and a special guest speaker presentation. Filmmaker Bill Kerig introduced his latest project, Ready to Fly, a film following Park City local ski jumper Lindsey Van and her quest for the inclusion of women’s ski jumping in the Olympic Winter Games.
