Snowbird, Utah – Snowbird collected more than two and a half tons of non-perishable food for the Utah Food Bank during the resort’s annual Customer Appreciation Days. The 5,252 pounds – the equivalent of 4,103 meals – was presented to the Utah Food Bank on Nov. 11 at the organizations new $10 million facility. In addition, $1,200 was raised for the Wasatch Adaptive Sports Program.
Customer Appreciation Days took place Oct. 31-Nov. 1 and Nov. 7-8. Guests were asked to donate one can of food in exchange for one free Tram ride, or in lieu of food customers could also make a $2 donation to the Wasatch Adaptive Sports Program.
“Snowbird’s annual customer appreciation program is a great opportunity to thank our guests for their support while contributing to an important cause,” said Snowbird President Bob Bonar. “We’re proud to help the Utah Food Bank supply much needed meals to the Utah community this holiday season.”
The food collected at Snowbird contributes to the Utah Food Bank’s Holiday Food Drive. The Holiday Food Drive is an annual effort to stock the shelves of the Utah Food Bank in preparation for the holidays and the winter months.
“This is a critical time for the emergency food network and we are in great need for donations,” said Utah Food Bank Services Executive Director Jim Pugh. “We are very appreciative for the on-going generosity of Snowbird and community members alike who give their support of food, cash and volunteer time.”
Wasatch Adaptive Sports is a non-profit educational foundation providing outdoor recreational activities for children and adults with special needs. Established by Peter Mandler in 1977, Wasatch Adaptive Sports reaches 1,800 participants through its year-round programs.
Offering the longest ski and snowboard season in Utah, Snowbird is scheduled to open for the 2009-10 season Saturday, Nov. 21, weather permitting. Last winter Snowbird had a 194-day season with skiing and riding from Nov. 7 to May 31.
