Mineral Basin is Open! Little Cloud Chair opens Friday!
on December 13, 2012
My first visit to Utah came in December 2003. It just so happened that the first resort I skied was Snowbird. Prior to our arrival, Utah had been blessed with over 120” of snow which is very similar to this season. I remember calling the Snowbird switchboard literally dozens of times from New York, always asking the same question, “When does Mineral Basin Open?” Mineral Basin really captures the essence of what skiing out west is all about A huge open bowl, barely a tree in sight and the only thing between you and the bottom is 2,000 feet of powder paradise.
There has been an explosion of terrain opening recently. Tomorrow, skiers and riders at Snowbird should surely head over to the brand spanking new Little Cloud Chair. The chair is set to open for the season, tomorrow at 9:00am with a ribbon cutting ceremony! The first public tram will be 8:45 to get people there on time. I even ran into a guy today that was so excited to be number one on the lift that he claimed he was going to spend the night up there. While I highly doubt that’s going to happen, I can tell you this. People are pumped to have a high speed quad replacing that old double chair. This new lift is really going to change the way people ski and ride the Bird. I used to bypass Little Cloud on a powder day because the line was usually so long, the lift took for ever and I just figured it was smarter to return to the base and ride the Tram. Well those days are over!
