More Blower Powder at the Basin!
on February 25, 2013
Sometimes it’s hard coming up with new things to say on the blog, I mean heck, I’m a skier not a writer right? After spending the day at Snowbasin on Sunday and skiing what was close to 2 feet of fresh, untracked, blower Utah powder. . . it came to me. While this winter hasn’t rivaled the epic 2009 / 2010 season in total snowfall, it has surpassed that season in one major category... Snow quality. Personally I can’t remember a season where the quality of the powder was this good. It feels like every storm that comes through the state drops even lower density snowfall than the last. Don’t want to take my word for it? Check out the Alta Snowfall History page and see for yourself. Most of our major storms this season have come in between 2.5% and 8%. http://www.alta.com/pages/snowfallhistory.php That’s the stuff that makes Utah literally have The Greatest Snow on Earth. If this whole density thing makes no sense to you, then try reading this http://www.or.nrcs.usda.gov/Snow/about/swe.html
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Alta has surpassed the 310” mark for the season.
