Weekly Condition and Weather Report

Alta Powder Day! I told you it would snow last Sunday on the blog. Had you been paying attention, you too could have been skiing this! Instead you let, Jeff, Toby, Joe and yours truly have our way with Alta on Saturday. There is still plenty of skiing to be had over there, Ballroom and Baldy Shoulder have yet to open. I have a feeling that the Alta Ski Patrol is waiting for our evil little snow pack to settle out before they start tossing bombs on it. Either way I would keep an eye on the expected openings page at Alta (http://www.alta.com/pages/openings.php), this way you can be the first to know when more terrain is expected to open. My people on the inside at Alta tell me to expect addtional terrain to open on Thanksgiving or shortly after that.
Now this is just my take on things but I wouldn't expect the High Traverse to open at Alta any time soon, it looks like the wind had it's way with those exposed, upper elevation, west facing slopes. After another decent sized storm or so we should be on our way and skiing all over the mountain.
If I were hunting powder this week I'd stick to the north facing trees off the Wildcat chair at Alta. On Sunday the resorts all received about two inches of snow and they are all expecting another round of light snow on Monday.
The next powder installment should be knocking on the door either Thanksgiving night or shortly thereafter. At the moment the computer models that forecast these storms are really all over the place. From run to run, things are changing dramatcially so I don't necessarly have a ton of confidence in this storm panning out quite like I'd like it to. Until then, pray for snow and be safe out there. All you Powderhounds remember if you're traveling in the backcountry be extra careful that snowpack we have isn't super safe.
