Ogden Marathon Lottery & Registration FAQ
NOTE: All times referenced are Mountain Standard Time (MST)
Q: How will the lottery system work?
The lottery registration will open for the full and half marathon by 9:00 am MST on October 1, 2012, and remain open through October 21, 2012 at 11:59 pm, MST. There is a $5.00 non-refundable lottery administration fee to enter the lottery. Only one entry per person will be accepted. Runners are not allowed to register for both races.
During this 21-day period, an online race registration form will be available on the Ogden Marathon website.
Everyone who registers for the lottery during the 21-day period will have the same chance of being chosen, regardless of the date or time they register.
Lottery registrants will be selected electronically after the lottery closes. Both selected and rejected applicants will be notified by email by 5:00 pm MST on November 1, 2012. At that time, selected applicants will be sent an invitation to register. The invitation will include registration instructions and credit card payment information. Selected registrants will have until 5:00 pm MST on Thursday, November 15, 2012, to complete their registration and fee payment for the race.
Q. Is it possible to enter the lottery as a group?
Yes, it is possible for groups of 2 to 10 people to enter the lottery together. Group registration is available to avoid situations where one family member or friend is selected for the race and their running partners are not selected. Group registration ensures that either everyone in the group is selected or no one in the group is selected. Groups are treated as individual registrants so the odds of being chosen as a group are the same as being chosen as an individual. There is a $5.00 non-refundable lottery administration fee per runner.
The person in charge of registering the group should have everyone's information including name, phone, address, birthdate, gender and age on race day. The person who is registering the group will also be responsible for payment. Individuals cannot "Join" a group later. They must be part of the original registration or they will need to enter the lottery on their own.
Runners are not allowed to register individually AND as part of a group. They must choose one or the other and are not able to change their status from an individual registrant once they have signed up. Runners who sign up as both an individual and as a member of a group will have their multiple registrations rejected.
Groups may consist of a combination of both marathon and half marathon participants. Groups will be informed of their selection status at the same time individuals are informed on November 1, 2012.
Q. What is the Ogden Marathon VIP Program?
The VIP program enables runners to make an up-front donation of $300.00 to secure a spot in either race. The Ogden Marathon VIP program, benefits the GOAL Foundation’s Young Runners Program. It helps to underwrite the race course, supplies, shirts, medals, and prizes. It also pays race entry fees for children in both Weber County and Ogden City School Districts’ afterschool programs who participate in a health and fitness program leading up to the Ogden Marathon. Half of the VIP entry goes directly to the program and the other half goes to runner services.
As part of their exclusive Ogden Marathon experience, VIP runners receive special treatment in regards to registration, transportation, and all runner services before, during, and after the race. The VIP program registration will open at 9:00 am MST on October 1, 2012, and is not part of the lottery and the registration is non-refundable. VIP registrations are limited, so to secure a spot, runners should be sure to sign up early!
Q. Do you offer guaranteed charity entries?
Yes! Through the Ogden Marathon’s Get Out And Give program, the GOAL Foundation partners with selected charity programs and offers alternative ways to enter the marathon and half marathon races. Click here for a list of charities to which you can donate to.
The charity registration enables runners to make an up-front donation of at least $300.00 to an official Get Out And Give charity of the Ogden Marathon. Charity entries are limited, and registration will open at 9:00 am MST on November 15, 2012. Charity registration will remain open until spots are sold. Q. Do you have an exception for runners who have completed multiple marathon races?
Yes, we will offer a guaranteed full marathon entry to individuals who have been verified as completing 8 or more OGDEN full marathon (26.2 distance) races. Those individuals will be sent an invitation to register via e-mail and must complete their registration between September 17 and September 28, 2012 to receive a guaranteed marathon entry. Those individuals will be emailed by September 14, 2012 that they need to register between September 17 and September 28,, 2012 to receive a guaranteed marathon entry. If they fail to register during that period, those runners must enter the lottery for a chance to be selected and are no longer eligible for a guaranteed race entry for this year.
Full marathon runners who are part of the 10-year club or are entering the 10-year club in 2013, will also be emailed by September 14, 2012. They will also need to register during this registration window to be eligible for guaranteed entry.
Q. What will pricing be for the 2013 Race?

Q. Can I switch my registration from one race to another?
Yes, if you are registered for the marathon or half marathon, you may switch to a different distance race (half to full or full to half only – 5K and Relay races are not included in transfers). Transfers will be allowed from 9:00 am MST on March 1, 2013 until 5:00 pm MST on April 15, 2013. There is a $25.00 non-refundable administrative fee plus the additional registration fee difference if transferring up from the half marathon to the full marathon. To allow for race staff to finalize all race planning and transportation logistics, no transfers will be accepted after April 15, 2013. Because each race has limited number of spots available, transfers will be based on availability of space in each race. Spots may be filled before the April 15th deadline, and the race director reserves the right to close the race to race transfer option at anytime during the transfer window.
Q. Can I switch my registration to another runner?
Yes, if you are registered for the marathon or half marathon, you may transfer your registration to another runner during the same time period as race-to-race transfers, March 1, 2013 to April 15, 2013. There is a $25.00 non-refundable administrative fee for all transfers. No transfers will be accepted after the April 15th deadline to allow for race staff to finalize all race planning and transportation logistics. Runner to runner transfers will not be able to change shirt sizes. The original registrant shirt size and style will be available for pick up. Transfers will be based on availability of space in each race, as race fields are limited. Spots may be filled before the April 15th deadline, and the race director reserves the right to close the runner-to-runner transfer option at anytime during the transfer window.
Q. Can I switch my registration from one race to another at packet pick-up?
No, race to race transfers cannot be facilitated at the Fun & Fitness Expo due to course logistics and transportation. The Ogden Marathon is a closed course that requires precise transportation planning to ensure that on race day, all participants safely arrive on-time at the appropriate start line.
Q. Can I switch my registration to another runner at packet pick up?
Yes, runner to runner transfers will be facilitated at the Fun & Fitness Expo. Runner to runner transfers will not be able to change shirt size and style. The original registrant’s shirt size and style will be available for pick up. Runner to runner transfers at the Fun & Fitness Expo will be based on administrative capability of the timing company and race staff. The race director reserves the right to close runner to runner transfers at the Fun & Fitness Expo due to high volume. Please try to anticipate runner to runner transfers and facilitate them during the transfer window of March 1 to April 15th.
Q. Is there a penalty for giving my bib to another runner on race day or running a different race then I am registered for?
Yes, participants are NOT ALLOWED to transfer between races on race day. Any participant who runs under someone else’s bib or who runs a different race than what they are registered for will be disqualified and will not be scored. For the safety of our runners and in case of a medical emergency, it is imperative that the registration data associated with the race number belongs to the person wearing the bib. If race organizers become aware that a runner has participated in one of our events with a bib that is not registered to that runner, both the runner and the person to whom the bib is registered will be prohibited from participating in subsequent Ogden Marathon events for a minimum of two years.
Important Race Information
Minimum Two-Year Ban for Unauthorized Runners
Our past races have had numerous participants running under someone else’s race number. While this may seem harmless to the parties perpetrating the bib transfer, it does convey serious consequences to the organizers and participant field alike.
From race results to finishers’ awards being impacted as well as medical staff being able to correctly identify participants in need of treatment, it is imperative that the registration data associated with your race number belong to you, the participant.
If race organizers become aware that a runner has participated in one of our events with a bib that is not registered to that runner, both the runner and the person to whom the bib is registered will be prohibited from participating in subsequent Ogden Marathon events for a minimum of two years.
