PARK CITY, UTAH – The Canyons Resort announced today that The Glory Hole, Inc. has signed a contract to open a hot glass studio at the Sundial Lodge in the Resort Village. The hot glass shop will produce glass art and functional glass. The studio will also offer participatory classes for anyone interested in learning about glass art. The shop will feature glass blowing facilities, glass casting, slump molding, stained glass, neon glass and lampwork. The studio will include a viewing gallery for visitors to watch while glass art is produced. The Glory Hole employs a number of highly skilled glass artists that will be producing art and teaching classes. The hot shop will also be showcasing famous skilled artists-in-residence from around the world on a rotating basis. Currently there are no complete glass studios in Utah that provide all of these services. The center is expected to open by mid January of 2008.
“We will be the most exciting artistic activity in the Park City area,” says founder and president, Peter Roberts. “To come into our studio after skiing or snowboarding, warm yourself by our furnaces, and watch the drama of hot glass being worked, will be a truly unique and inviting experience.” Roberts says the business will have a retail shop and will also sell their work through a catalog. There are also plans for a portable furnace, which can be used to provide on-site hot glass performances around the Park City area.
Todd Burnette, Vice-President of Marketing commented, “The Canyons Resort is thrilled to be a part of the artistic movement in the Park City area. This is an innovative idea in Utah, and will add to the traffic to the entire Resort Village. We look forward to The Glory Hole being a part of The Canyons community.”
Adding to The Canyons focus on being an environmentally conscious resort, the studio will use environmentally friendly technology, methods and materials. The Glory Hole will be a ‘green’ company. The company will be using highly efficient, less polluting furnace and kiln technology developed and patented by Roberts.
A ‘glory hole’ refers to both the furnace that hot glass is heated in and kept warm for working; it also refers to a rich vein of silver ore that is mined to the surface, thus forming a glory hole. The studio will emphasize Park City’s silver mining history.
The company’s website will include live web cams to showcase the action in the studio. Currently the website is under construction. Art will be sold with DVD’s used to capture the dramatic process of artists’ work. For further information, call (435) 940-1425.
The Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah is the largest single ski and snowboard resort in Utah and one of the largest in the United States. Located just four miles from Park City's historic Main Street, The Canyons offers 3,700 acres of diverse terrain over eight separate mountains, accessing 155 trails.
