SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH- Ski Utah has partnered with Utah Premier Cycling Club to create a recreational and competitive cycling team sponsored by Ski Utah. The group consists of 100 road and mountain cycling enthusiasts who hit the pavement and dirt once the snow melts. The team is open to any cyclist whether an aggressive competitor, newcomer looking to race for the first time or weekender in search of riding partners.
“This team is a great extension of the Ski Utah brand throughout the summer months,” said Ski Utah President Nathan Rafferty, “Many cyclists are also snowriders. In many ways, the cycling community could be considered a key target market.” Beyond presence in the cycling community, the team’s cycling kits act as billboards on wheels reminding people everywhere that skiing is just around the corner. Ski Utah cyclists will participate in races in several states including Nevada, Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Illinois, Rhode Island, and the U.S. Masters National Championships in Kentucky.
“It is great to be associated with an organization that promotes skiing in Utah,” said Laura Patten Ski Utah cycling team member. “It is one of the reasons I moved out here after college.” Patten also mentioned that the Ski Utah team is a great conversation piece at the start-line and that announcers seem to enjoy talking about skiing in Utah. Patten, age 40, has already placed first in the 2008 Tax Day Circuit and the 2008 East Canyon Road Race. Patten enjoys alpine and Nordic skiing.
Another impressive cyclist representing “The Greatest Snow on Earth” is 17-year-old Chase Pinkham. As the top ranked junior age 17-18 in 2007, Pinkham is looking forward to a very successful cycling career. “I like training with Ski Utah because the members are amazingly accepting and friendly,” said Pinkham. “They work very well as a team.”
Registration to join the Ski Utah cycling team is open now through June 2. For more information on the Ski Utah cycling team or to join, visit www.SkiUtahCycling.com.
