The Greatest Snow on Earth: Why it Matters to Utah

November 1, 2009

In Utah, The Greatest Snow on Earth® is a lot more than a simple slogan on a license plate. The motto celebrates one of the state’s most precious and enjoyable resources. The Utah ski and snowboard industry is a vital and important part of Utah, greatly contributing the quality of life which Utahans are privileged to enjoy. Below are a few key facts on why skiing and snowboarding are important to the people who call Utah home:

1.) Skiing contributes $1 billion to the state economy.

2.) Tourism provides $806 of tax relief per household.

3.) Twenty-five percent of Utahans say they have skied or snowboarded in the past two years.

4.) Two in five (43%) Utah households has a skier or snowboarder.

5.) Nearly half (48%) of Wasatch Front residents visit Utah ski resorts in the summer.

6.) Skiing, snowboarding and “mountain living” provides a healthy and positive way for people to connect with family, friends and nature. Ski Utah urges both skiers and non-skiers to take advantage of the many activities which can be experienced in Utah’s mountains and at resorts.
