Since 1984, when they established Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, they have called Utah home. They have a special commitment to the animals here, and have been working tirelessly with their network of No More Homeless Pets shelter and rescue partners to create lifesaving programs based in Salt Lake City and around the state, including hosting events like NKUT Adoption Weekend and Strut Your Mutt. As the final push to help turn Utah into a no-kill state, Best Friends Animal Society launched the NKUT (No-Kill Utah) initiative in 2014. NKUT is bringing together passionate individuals, city shelters and an entire coalition of animal welfare organizations to end the killing of dogs and cats in shelters throughout the state of Utah by the year 2019.
