CANYONS RESORT KICKED OFF ANNUAL SUMMER CONCERT SERIES THIS SATURDAY, JULY 11

July 13 2015

PARK CITY, UTAH (July, 2015) – Canyons kicks off its annual Summer Concert Series this Saturday, July 11 and will continue on select Saturdays this summer ending September 5.  The free concert series is highlighted by Grammy® Award-winning performers and features bands from every genre including 10,000 Maniacs, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Sam Bush. Live music starts at 6 p.m. on the Mountain Stage in the Resort Village.

“Summer in Park City is the perfect time to enjoy live music,” said Davy Ratchford, resort marketing director for Park City and Canyons. “Canyons has a long tradition of supporting live music in the community and we are thrilled to offer a jam-packed summer season of free concerts and world-class performers in this beautiful mountain setting.”

The Blind Boys of Alabama open the concert series this Saturday, July 11. Recognized worldwide as living legends of gospel music, this five-time, Grammy Award-winning group has attained the highest levels of achievement in a career that spans over 60 years. They are known for crossing multiple musical boundaries with their remarkable interpretations of everything from traditional gospel favorites to contemporary spiritual material.

Fresh off of the release of their latest album, 10,000 Maniacs will rock Canyons on Saturday, August 1. Together with artists like R.E.M., 10,000 Maniacs defined college rock and created the first wave of alternative rock bands and what became known as the alternative rock format on FM radio.

Grammy Award-winning multi-instrumentalist Sam Bush will hit the Mountain Stage on August 15. Best known for his jaw-dropping skills on the mandolin, Bush has helped to expand the horizons of bluegrass music, fusing it with jazz, rock, blues, funk and other styles. He’s a founding member of the New Grass Revival and has played with everyone from Emmylou Harris and Bela Fleck to Charlie Haden, Lyle Lovett and Garth Brooks.

Cajun rock ’n’ roll band Feufollet also appears this season on July 25 and multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Zach Deputy will round out the series with soulful rhythm and blues on September 5.

In addition to free concerts, summer activities are in full swing at Canyons. Guests can enjoy scenic hiking trails, biking on 12 jump, flow, freeride and downhill trails at the lift-serviced bike park, pedal boat rentals and trout fishing on the Alpine Lake, Zip Tour Adventures and Canyons’ new 18 hole golf course. Canyons’ Summer Concert Schedule:

Saturday, July 11: Blind Boys of Alabama
The Blind Boys of Alabama are recognized worldwide as living legends of gospel music. Celebrated by The National Endowment for the Arts and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) with Lifetime Achievement Awards, inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and winners of five Grammy Awards, they have attained the highest levels of achievement in a career that spans over 60 years.

Saturday, July 25: Feufollet
Feufollet is Americana at its finest— reverential but wholly nonconformists. The young and vibrant Southwest Louisiana band takes Cajun, honky-tonk, and string-band music as their starting point, and keeps an open mind about where their song craft will lead them. On Two Universes, their first studio album in over five years, Feufollet proves their Cajun roots don’t define them as much as propel them forward; whispers of the swamp and its time-honored waltzes trigger a modern and broad musical imagination, one that finds equal expression in blues, old-time, country ballads, rock ’n’ roll, whatever, all for the sake of the song.

Saturday, August 1: 10,000 Maniacs
One of the most critically acclaimed bands of the last three decades, 10,000 Maniacs were founded by Robert Buck, Dennis Drew, Steven Gustafson, John Lombardo and Natalie Merchant in the fall of 1981. Jerry Augustyniak joined in 1983. Together with artists like R.E.M. they defined college rock and created the first wave of alternative rock bands and what became known as the alternative rock format on FM radio.

Saturday, August 15: Sam Bush

Grammy Award-winning multi-instrumentalist Sam Bush doesn't seem old enough to be a musical legend. And he's not. But he is. Alternately known as the King of Telluride and the King of Newgrass, Bush has been honored by the Americana Music Association and the International Bluegrass Music Association. "It's overwhelming and humbling," Bush says of his lifetime achievement award from the AMA. "It goes along with the title cut of my new album, Circles Around Me, which basically says, how in the hell did we get this far? In my brain I'm still 17, but I look in the mirror and I'm 57."

Saturday, September 5: Zach Deputy

On his new release Another Day (Eusonia Records, 2011), Zach Deputy demonstrates his extraordinary ability to perform and record in multiple contexts and conveys the sensibilities of a mature singer/songwriter. Another Day offers another look at Zach Deputy and seeks to help him cross over into other audiences. Rich with ballads and mid-tempo songs, the music on this recording is best described as soulful rhythm and blues, with flavors of Al Green, Taj Mahal and Stevie Wonder emerging in the swells, changes and modulations of the music, in the voice and even in the lyrical content.
