Backcountry Awareness fundraiser is Friday

Paralympic champion Chris Waddell will be the featured speaker Friday at the annual Utah Backcountry Awareness benefit dinner in the Cliff Lodge ballroom at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort.

Organized by the Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center and the Snowbird Renaissance Center, the fundraiser also features a silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m., dinner, live music and a book signing by Utah Avalanche Center forecaster Bruce Tremper, author of "Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain."

Waddell will describe his development into a Paralympic champion after being paralyzed in a skiing accident while in college.

The cost is $75 a person. Purchasers of a table of 10 will receive two Snowbird lift tickets.
