If you were born between 1946 and 1964 you’re a Boomer with lots of company. Boomers are turning age 60 at the rate of more than 300 an hour. So get out there and ski or ride. You’ll make a lot of friends and have a lot more fun than just being a statistic.
Utah resorts love seniors. Here are some highlights that seniors especially enjoy.
At Alta, the Wild Old Bunch gathers in Alf’s mid mountain restaurant daily about 11 a.m. for coffee and camaraderie. Introduce yourself and join the fun.
Brighton has an elevator to take you, the grandkids, and all your equipment up to snow level. Seniors say the grooming is 5-star.
At Canyons, tuckered out seniors enjoy sopping up sunshine and après ski refreshment in the base area beach chairs.
When it’s time for lunch at Deer Valley, definitely heap your plate at the yummy Natural Buffet. Deer Valley, voted the top resort in North America five times in a row by Ski magazine readers, is a gourmet’s delight.
A favorite at Park City Mountain Resort is the huge selection of blue runs. Be sure to check out their Signature runs. They’re the ones that got extra pampering.
Seniors enjoy Powder Mountain for its retro feel. Nothing frivolous. Just hearty groomed runs and as much ungroomed powder as you can eat.
Solitude. Shhhh. Seniors enjoy its uncrowded slopes.
At Snowbird, seniors love the wide open, sunny Mineral Basin side of the mountain. “Skiing keeps you young, so ski as much as you can,” says Snowbird spokesperson Emily Moench. Then seniors unwind at the spa and in the rooftop pool.
Snowbasin’s day lodges are very European. And world-traveling seniors say the Strawberry Bowl is just like Switzerland.
At Sundance, be sure to see the photo wall documenting owner Robert Redford’s film career. He’s a senior too, and you might catch a glimpse of him skiing.
