Some of us, like myself, are old enough to remember a time when new ski resorts were popping up on snowy hillsides across the country. It seems, however, that phenomenon has slowed in recent years. That is why I was so stoked to hop in my Yukon with some buddies and check out the VERY FIRST DAY of Utah's newest ski resort Eagle Point. Eagle Point is about a 3.5-hour drive from Salt Lake City and Las Vegas, so we decided to make a night of it complete with a pit stop at a secret hot springs and civilized evening of poker. Unfortunately, Ski Utah Prez Nathan Rafferty stole all my chips.
A little groggy the next morning, I was pleased to find a nice fluffy layer of untouched goodness covering the slopes of Eagle Point. The resort hosts 400 skiable acres over 1,400 vertical feet and literally feels like you have your own private mountain. Condominiums are available at the resort, and additional lodging options are located down in nearby Beaver. Check it out at www.skieaglepoint.com.
My daughter Sofia, born in Argentina, is working at Eagle Point as ski instructor. I miss her a lot but I know she´s living the greatest experience in her life. I would love to see her skiing down the mountain. I´m proud of her!!!
