What is the Ski Utah Sixth Grade Passport?

It is a Ski Utah program that provides free skiing and snowboarding to sixth grade students. The Passport affords participants the opportunity to experience each one of Utah’s uniquely different resorts.

Why sixth graders?

Sixth graders (11 and 12 year olds) are at a crucial age in their development where they are choosing (or not choosing) healthy lifestyle activities over more sedentary activities. Choosing activities that help children keep active in the winter is a high priority to Ski Utah and its members. We believe that a healthy child is a happy child and happy, active children grow up to be happy, active adults. This benefits everyone.

Utah sixth graders may have been introduced to skiing or snowboarding through Ski Utah’s fourth grade learn to ski and ride program and participated in Ski Utah’s 5th Grade Passport program. Additional trials at each resort may be necessary before a season pass purchase decision can be made. The Sixth Grade Passport allows just that…a one-time trial at each of the 14 Utah ski resorts.

How often can each sixth grade student ski or snowboard?

Each participating Utah ski resort provides one day of skiing or snowboarding. (Passports will not be valid at Deer Valley Resort 12/24/11-1/2/12; 2/18-20/12 and Solitude Mountain Resort 12/17/11-1/2/12)

Is there a fee for the Sixth Grade Passport?

There is a $35.00 processing fee.

Is the Passport good for anything besides free skiing and snowboarding?

Besides free skiing and snowboarding, the Passport includes discounts on ski and snowboard lessons, equipment rental, attractions and various other things.

How do I apply for the Passport?

There are two ways to apply for the Sixth Grade Passport.

1. Apply online through SkiUtah.com/Passport. Complete the application as directed. Attach a current photo of the fifth grader and use your VISA, MasterCard or American Express to cover the processing fee.

2. Download an application at SkiUtah.com/Passport. Complete the application as directed. Enclose a 2 x 2 current photo of the sixth grader, a copy of the child’s proof of sixth grade status (copy of birth certificate; current, or fifth grade end of year report card or letter from principal on school letterhead) and a check or money order to cover the processing fee and mail to Ski Utah, 150 West 500 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84101

Who helps fund the Passport?

Ski Utah has partnered with KSL-TV, KSL Radio, Richard E. and Nancy P. Marriott Foundation, Zions Bank, PowerAde, Pictureline, Rossignol, Burton, Ski-n-See, Canyon Sports, AJ Motion Sports, Utah Ski & Golf and Ski Utah member resorts to make this program possible.

Can I still apply if my sixth grader is home-schooled?

Yes. Any sixth grader is eligible for the Sixth Grade Passport. Simply follow the instructions on the application.

How long will it take to get the Passport?

It generally takes 2-3 weeks, but it all depends on the number of applications that have been received. Applying online is the fastest way to get your Passport.

Does my child need a paying adult to accompany him/her at the resort?

Most resorts do not require a paying adult, but Ski Utah always recommends the Passport holder has an adult with him or her while at the resort.

What happens if I accidentally lose or wash my child’s Passport?

Call Ski Utah immediately so we can cancel the Passport. There is a $35 replacement fee.
