Fri Oct 12 2012 - Sun Oct 14 2012

Friday morning through Sunday noon.

EXPLORING MIND & BODY THROUGH THE EIGHT-LIMBED YOGA PATH
October 12-14, 2012

Fall yoga retreat with Kim LynnThe core of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra is an eight-limbed path that forms the structural framework for yoga practice.  We tend to focus on the physical "asana" practice of yoga (comprising only ONE of eight limbs), while the others get neglected.  This weekend we hope to offer the complete practice.  We shall see that when practiced within this larger context, that yoga can truly transform the body, clarify the mind, and open the heart.

The Eight-Limbed Yoga Path
1. Yamas (moral restraints)
2. Niyamas (personal observances)
3. Asana (physical postures)
4. Pranayama (breath work)
5. Pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses)
6. Dharana (concentration)
7. Dhyana (meditation)
8. Samadhi (blissful union)

We are delighted to introduce Thomas McConkie as our mindfulness teacher at this retreat.  Thomas has been studying Buddhist meditation and mind training since 1999.  Since then, he has been practicing avidly and learning from some of the best teachers of our time, including Shinzen Young and Joshu Sasaki Roshi. Recently returned from China, Thomas has been working with mental healthcare professionals to implement mindfulness-based approaches in various forms of treatment, intervention and programs to promote happiness beyond conditions.

Thomas will focus his sessions on the last three limbs, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi.  He will guide retreat attendees through daily sits, instructing principles of mindfulness, insight (svadhyaya), and purification (tapas).  We will see how mindfulness principles may be applied to asana practice on the mat, as well as day to day living off the mat.

Kim and Brande will offer five complete yoga sessions throughout the weekend, which will be themed around the Yamas and the Niyamas.  The retreat will also include daily pranayama, a Kirtan led by brilliant musician, Leraine Horstmanshoff, and optional private massage sessions with a licensed massage therapist.  Enjoy gourmet meals prepared by a fantastic Alta Lodge staff, and private or semi-private rooming accommodations. The retreat begins on Friday morning and wraps up mid-day on Sunday. Please register early as the retreat is limited to 20 participants.
