More Information

Skiing with Wasatch Powderbird Guides is a memorable and exciting experience. We offer both regular operations and private charters. In the regular operations clients can purchase one seat or more. In the private charter, groups or individuals can rent a helicopter for their exclusive use and pay for the flight time.

Normally we fly with groups of four clients and one guide to the peak. Often two flight groups will ski together with two guides. That enables us to have one guide in front and one guide at the "tail" providing clients with a very safe and enjoyable ski experience. Skier groups are determined by the weights and abilities of the skiers and we try to match groups with skiers of comparable abilities. If you have any questions or concerns about weight or ability please refer to our Terms & Conditions or Skier Ability Guidelines.

For all of our clients the day normally begins the night before you ski with us. We ask that you call and check-in with us the night prior to your reservation date. If you will be unable to check-in with us please let us know. At that time we can ensure that we have the correct phone number and lodging information for any morning pick-ups (for guests staying in Little Cottonwood Canyon only). When you check in we will schedule the morning wake-up call as well as ski rentals and/or morning pick-ups.

In the morning, we call you bright and early to give an update on conditions (and make sure that you're awake). At that time, if you are staying in Little Cottonwood Canyon, we will confirm or re-adjust your pick-up time. When you arrive at the heliport you will check in with the host at the desk. You can enjoy our wonderful continental breakfast of bagels, cereal, fruit, coffee, and orange juice while you fill out the required paperwork (available online). After all of the paperwork has been submitted to the host the guides will begin their orientation. You will attend a brief indoor orientation on back country safety and avalanche transceivers. Then you will head outdoors to the appropriate helicopter to begin the mandatory helicopter orientation. After orientation you will be ready to go.

The clients then load the helicopter and embark on their ski day. The Wasatch Range is legendary for the predictable quality of its powder snow. While at most ski resorts the snow becomes tracked out soon after the lifts open, in the back country the dry powder remains untracked throughout much of the winter. Our guides know where to find the best snow, whether it's one day or two weeks after a storm. Our diverse terrain and decades of experience ensure that "if it's out there, we'll find it", and it's out there in the Wasatch! Through our exclusive special-use permit we can provide guided access to some of the most incredible parts of the Wasatch back country.

After all of the exhausting fun of skiing smooth, untracked snow clients head back into the heliport to celebrate the completion of the day. Our lunch chef prepares a delicious lunch to satisfy the most ravenous skiers appetite. Our heliport has a small store where you can purchase items for yourself or those friends and family members who were unable to fly with us. We hope that after your experience with Wasatch Powderbird Guides you will look forward to coming back, whether it is the next day or next year. We have a high number of repeat guests and look forward to skiing with them each season.
