I don’t know how many people are actively seeking out skiing footage right now, with Memorial Day and the unofficial start to summer just a few days away, but I’m still skiing and I’m sure as hell going to keep on writing about it.
My last update, We’re Not Done Yet, came almost a month ago from the Tram Line during a 13” powder day at Snowbird. I hinted that the skiing was going to good based on a quote from professional Powderhound and aspiring TV Weatherman, Matt, in the days leading up to the storm:
“It’s going to be good, bro”—Powderhound Matt - April 23, 2017
His forecast was spot-on. Aside from a three-week window in March, this winter has been one constant snowstorm, as if Ullr accidentally left the Utah snow globe and a Red Bull in his infant nephew's playpen.
May has been one to remember for me personally, skiing 18 days so far, checking off backcountry lines in West Monitor, Jupiter Peak, Main Chute, Daly Chutes and Wolverine Cirque in the process. I’ve also managed to ski, and apres-ski, another 13 days at Snowbird in May. While touring is a great way to get in shape for bikini season, you can’t beat the 3,000 feet of vertical accessed by Snowbird’s Aerial Tram. And speaking of the 'bird, Snowbird will be open Friday thru Monday for Memorial Day Weekend, before transitioning to weekends-only until the snow melts... whenever that may be. Keep your fingers and skis crossed and maybe we’ll be throwing both fireworks and spread eagles for freedom this 4th of July! Until then, take advantage of Snowbird's lodging deals to get you on the snow.
Here's a peek back at a spring, filled with days I'll never forget. . .
