Sundance Mountain Resort is the ultimate home for winter family adventure. When you walk up to the ticket window on a weekend morning at Sundance, you’ll hear about all types of adventures on any given day. With the cozy rustic mountain lodges, terrain for every ability level, and some of the best views in Utah, your family will love exploring this mountain. Spending a day at Sundance is an absolute pleasure, and before you know it, your little ones will be chasing after their own adventure and tackling more challenging terrain.

Winter adventure sports

Sundance invites the whole family to the mountain, knowing that adventure might look different from person to person. The resort is made to welcome and engage every single member of the family. Besides downhill skiing/riding, you’ll see others nordic skiing, ziplining, night skiing, downhill snow biking and even fly fishing. Don’t feel intimidated if it’s your first time trying something new, Sundance offers guides and classes for everything!

Using natural terrain to expand skills

While Sundance offers a little bit of every type of winter adventure, they offer a LOT of skiing and riding. After your little one graduates from the tow-rope, head up Ray’s lift and find terrain that is challenging in an approachable way. Our little guy has mastered “pizza” and “french fry” and was ready to take it to the next level our trip to Sundance. Instead of using gates to shape his turns, we skied through the “gates” of the Outlaw forest and wove through the aspens. He thought he was playing, but really he was practicing turns down steeper terrain. He felt interested and excited all afternoon and we couldn’t believe how much he progressed in just one day.

Inside adventures:

If you head straight home after a day of skiing, you’re missing out. Whether you are popping in to warm up between runs, or spending part of the day inside with grandparents, your curiosity will be piqued when you realize what Sundance has to offer in their art studio and beyond. From pottery classes, painting classes, leatherwork classes and jewelry making, you won’t mind being inside. The kid’s art classes are a great way to keep the kids busy so mom and dad can grab a few runs! While the shopping is GREAT and the grocery/cafe is adorable (hint: the suckers are amazing!!), the real star of the show is brunch at Foundry Grill. The Foundry offers what many families consider to be the BEST Sunday brunch in Utah and many families make an annual tradition of eating brunch after a day of skiing once a year. Make reservations, come hungry and know that whether you show up in a dress or ski boots that you’ll fit right in.

Family time together

The family legacy at Sundance runs deep. Don’t be surprised if you run into Robert Redford or ride the lift with one of his grandchildren. You’ll see all kinds of families at Sundance. Parents taking their first snowboard lesson, young ski racers and die-hard locals that SWEAR by Sundance because of it’s wild terrain and the fact that powder stays just a little longer due to less crowds. You will also see grandparents reading inside the cozy lodges, fathers taking snowboard classes with children and mothers taking their little ones down their favorite runs. Sundance knows that spending time as a family is what makes skiing so special.

If it's your first time to Sundance, read Navigating Sundance Resort for a complete guide to getting around the mountain.
