Eagle Point is an incredible little ski resort located three hours south of Salt Lake City and provides the opportunity to have a private resort full of powder pretty much to yourself. Located in the breathtaking Tushar Mountains, guests often comment on the lack of lift lines, no crowds, and beautiful scenery. This resort boasts a leg-burning 1,500 vertical feet over 650 acres via five chairlifts. Friday is the best day to ski Eagle Point because they are closed Monday-Thursday and re-open Friday every week. Any snow that falls between those dates doesn’t get skied off, it just piles up creating one of the most incredible days of powder skiing if you are one of the few there to experience a Powder Friday at this resort.
How to Execute the perfect Powder Friday:
Get the forecast.
I always look to Evan Thayer of OpenSnow who often will call out these southern storms that approach Utah. When you see a mid-week storm Monday-Thursday you can almost guarantee a full day of untracked snow. The last three Powder Fridays in February guests have been greeted with 40 inches, 16 inches and 20 inches of fresh snow with hardly any crowds.
Book your lodging quickly.
This is a small resort that has built some incredible slopeside condos. They go quickly once the word is out that Powder Friday will be deep. They not only are they beautiful, but the condos are very affordable. Currently, a one bedroom ski-in/ski-out condo will run you just over $100. If they are sold out, there are accommodations not far down the road in the town of Beaver, UT.
Bring the proper clothing for high elevation.
Most think that heading south means this place will be warmer but let me tell you this place is not. Sitting at 9,100 feet of elevation, be prepared for the cold air that creates famous light Utah snow. Make sure to bundle up in layers and prepare for the cold.
Most days you would be lucky if you were skiing with 100 people on a Powder Friday. There will be fresh tracks bell to bell Friday and probably most of the day Saturday. Make sure to takes breaks and visit the Canyonside Bar & Grill to refuel. A local and personal favorite on the menu is the Salmon BLT! The other option if you are staying at the hotel is the hot tubs at the top of Canyonside. From powder turns to hot tub in minutes!
So here is your personal invitation to Eagle Point for the next Powder Friday. No matter what, everyone needs a break from the routine and a getaway at an affordable price of only $45 Friday passes (cheapest in Utah). Keep an eye on the forecast, and the next ski trip you plan to head south to Eagle Point! Side note, if you have time, make a weekend out of it and head down to Brian Head Friday night!
