Ski Utah Passport For 5th and 6th Grade Students

Ski Utah Passport For 5th and 6th Grade Students

Adventure Mom

By Adventure Mom \ October 30 2018

It’s snow secret that Utah has The Greatest Snow on Earth. But did you know that all 5th and 6th grade kids can take advantage of skiing 13 resorts this season? Enter the Ski Utah Passport Program.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Passport, the whole program is going digital. Nathan Rafferty, Ski Utah's President and CEO, understands first hand the importance of integrating technology to the Passport Program. “The Passport Program going digital allows us to streamline the process and get kids on the slopes in less time.” Instead of a physical booklet, this year everything will be available online.

Ski Utah's Passport program teaches a lifetime love of skiing

Barbara Schmidt fondly remembers when her children, now in college, participated in the Passport program. “It’s the best value out there - I mourned when my children had outgrown it.” This program has grown in popularity and now over 10,000 kids are anticipated to take advantage of the program during the 2018-2019 season.

Fifth-grade student Ben Richards is excited to ski all the resorts this season. “I can’t wait to ski with my friends this year," he said. "I’ve been looking forward to it since my brother Max did the Passport program three years ago. Max did snowboarding and I’m doing skiing.”

Why 5th and 6th Grade?

Children between the ages of 10 and 12 are usually strong enough to begin participating in the sport to a greater extent. Fifth and sixth graders are in an important developmental stage where they begin to choose either a healthy, active lifestyle or a more sedentary one for the future. Generally, children who choose the former stay active as adults.

5th Grade Ski Passport

If you’ve got a Fifth grader, you can apply for the Passport and you’ll get access to ski or ride three times at each of Utah's 13 resorts. That’s 39 days of skiing! How awesome is that? That’s a lot of skiing and a lot of opportunity. If you know of a fifth grader in Utah, make sure they take a chance on this ski passport. Even if they have never skied before, it’s a great time to start.

6th Grade Ski Passport

For those of you who’d like to take advantage of the Passport Program for a sixth grader, you can expect to get access to ski or ride one time at each of Utah's 13 resorts. Again, this will be a fun year of exploring and learning how to ski for the sixth graders who live in Utah. Not a lot of kids get an opportunity like this, so it’s important to take advantage of it all.

You won’t want to flake on this!

With unparalleled savings, you’ll want to take advantage of this now. The cost is a $45 administration fee. For fifth graders it breaks down to nearly a dollar a day of skiing. For sixth graders you can ski for just over three dollars a day.

How to apply

The application is now open and parents apply on behalf of your fifth or sixth grader.

1. Before You Apply

Most of the information you’ll need to register for the Passport program are things you’ll know off the top of your head, but you’ll want to have a photo of your child ready to upload. This photo is how the ski resorts verify it’s your child, so it’s important to have a good photo.

A good photo should have a blank background. Your child’s face should be visible. No goggles, sunglasses or hats.

One way to do this is to snap a picture of your child with your phone standing in front of a blank wall. Scanning in their school picture will work, too.

2. Create an Account

Go to

You’ll want to create an account in the parent portal. This is important because it will be your way to check when passes are redeemed. The parent portal will become your hub for discounts, coupons and future deals. So, you’ll want to use an email and phone number that you check; not a spam email or a phone number that doesn’t work.

3. Register

Next, you’ll want to fill out your child’s information.

There is a $45.00 processing fee for the Passport program. Besides (almost) free skiing and snowboarding, the Passport includes discounts on ski and snowboard lessons, equipment rental, attractions and various other things.

4. Next steps

Once your application has been accepted, you’ll receive an email confirmation with lift ticket redemption instructions.
