It is no secret that education is not the only reason students attend college in Utah. Utah’s world-renowned terrain and yearly snowfall totals, also influence soon-to-be college students. With so many colleges in Utah to choose from it is no easy task for students to decide where to spend the next four years of their life. Luckily, there are several options when it comes to selecting a college near one of Utah’s fifteen extraordinary resorts.

This article will provide an inside look at Utah’s most snow sport-oriented colleges from the point of view of their ski and snowboard clubs. Each club shares the similarity of bringing the snow sports community together to enjoy winter. The clubs offer great benefits for students looking to be active in the beautiful Wasatch Mountain Range and beyond.

Westminster College Ski and Snowboard Club

The Westminster College Ski and Snowboard Club is inclusive to all students and invites all ability levels to join. The club is a great opportunity to make friends and find people to carpool with to the mountain.

The Westminster Ski and Snowboard Club hosts many events throughout the year to bring students together to bond over a shared love for snow. From avalanche awareness classes to rail jams at Brighton, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy. The club offers free waxing clinics, movie premiers, product giveaways, club night skiing, and many more amazing benefits that bring the community together.

Along with great community-building events, students who join the Westminster Ski and Snowboard Club also receive up to 20% off season passes to many of Utah’s remarkable ski resorts. Students at Westminster College are invited to join the club by attending one of their events or contacting a club representative.

One Love Ski and Snowboard Club

In 2007, the One Love Ski and Snowboard Club at the University of Utah was founded and today is more than 1,200 members strong. The club offers a welcoming community aimed at celebrating its founding principle: bringing people together through a common love for skiing and snowboarding. Anyone who is a full-time student at any university or community college in the greater Salt Lake area can join the club for a small $5 fee.

To facilitate that goal, One Love helps students get heavily discounted passes to resorts in the region and has a long list of sponsors that offer students deep discounts on apparel and gear, as well as shop work like tuning.

Utah Freeskier Society

The Utah Freeskier Society was created in 2001 with the goal to promote the sport of skiing at the University of Utah. The club is a student-run, non-profit organization that offers students a way to make new friends to go and ski the mountain with. By joining the Utah Free Skier Society students get a discount on their college season pass and ski equipment.

Utah State University Snowboarding and Ski Club

Utah State University Snowboarding and Ski Club offers students the ability to create connections and make friends to shred the slopes with. The club meets regularly at small hills for group hike-n-rides and every so often will meet at resorts for group riding sessions. The hope of Utah State’s Snowboarding and Ski Club is to partner up with local resorts and businesses to bring them more foot traffic.

Southern Utah University Ski and Snowboard Club

The Ski and Snowboard Club at Southern Utah University was created in 2015 with the purpose to create a close-knit community where students can come together and share their love for winter sports. All students are welcomed to join SUU’s Ski and Snowboard Club no matter their ski/snowboarding skill level.

The club meets bi-weekly throughout the school year in the Rotunda starting mid-November (before Thanksgiving break) and will continue to meet until the end of the winter season (April).

Weber State University Snowboard Club

In 2004, the Weber State Snowboard Club was created and is a competitive recreational organization whose members both compete and ride for pure fun. This club is divided into two parts which are the recreational side and the competitive side.

For the recreational side of the club, members will enjoy ride nights, day trips, movie premiers, and traveling for the yearly spring break trip. Then on the competitive side of the club, members compete in a few local rail jams and slopestyle events a year.
