Opening Alta

Take a look at what happens before Alta opens for the day, from grooming to clearing snow and staff breakfasts complete with tasty bacon.

For most ski resort patrons at Alta Ski Area, the day begins when the first chair loads at 9:15 a.m. and ends around 4:30 p.m. with après and a recap of the amazing day you and your friends just had. But a day full of face shots or ripping groomers on The Greatest Snow on Earth wouldn’t be possible without the hard work put in by hundreds of resort employees long before (and after) the lifts are spinning.

From the grooming staff driving snowcats through the night to the ski patrollers doing safety checks at dawn, it takes a village (fueled by delicious bacon) to get Alta, and every other Utah resort, up and running smoothly every day.

If you're heading to Alta Ski Area, be sure to pre-purchase your lift ticket to save up to 20% and check out their Instagram page for current conditions. Here's a glimpse into a stormy morning at Alta.
