2015 Alta Summer Stewardship – No Snow, But Plenty To Do

June 17 2015

Alta, UT June 16, 2015: Alta Ski Area and its Alta Environmental Center is joining forces with the Town of Alta (TOA), Cottonwood Canyons Foundation (CCF), Forest Service, Friends of Alta (FOA), TreeUtah, and local residents to complete large and small stewardship projects throughout the summer. Events include Invasive Weed Removals, Trail Work, and Native Plant Restoration. The goal for these efforts is to restore thousands of native plants, pull a few tons of weeds, and work with hundreds of volunteers. Stewardship is the perfect fun, educational and dirty activity to support a common goal between all patrons.

The summer of events will kick-off with our first monthly Weed Pull on Thursday, June 25th 6-8pm. Believe it or not Alta is not as invaded by noxious weeds as other natural areas, but thats because we work very hard with our partners and volunteers to weed them out of town. To join this event just call or email the Public Lands Information Center at (801) 466-6411 or volunteer@cottonwoodcanyons.org. Subsequent Weed Pulls will be the 3rd Thursday each month, same time.

The stewardship partners hope that all Alta patrons see our line of stewardship opportunities as a way to minimalize recreational impact, making strides in building sustainability. These fun and often networking events are equally a time to build awareness and appreciation with our future stewards. Look up and share your favorite event on our fun 2015 calendar flyer!
