                              USOC announces 230-member 2014 U.S. Olympic Team,
                                           55 athletes share ties to the state of Utah
 
PARK CITY, UT (February 3, 2014) – Since the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games, the Olympic spirit has continued to thrive in the state of Utah. The 2013/14 winter competition season has been event-filled with fierce competition amongst top international athletes on World Cup circuits as well as American athletes vying for spots on Team USA. There were eight sporting events, along with two official U.S. team announcements, with Olympic significance between November and January.
 
The event season included the debut of “U.S. Olympic Team Trials” featuring long track and short track speed skating, Nordic combined and ski jumping competitions. Other notable events included the Visa U.S. Freestyle International, Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix, U.S. freeskiing team announcements, IBSF World Cup (bobsled and skeleton), FIL World Cup (luge), and U.S. luge team announcements.
 
With the announcement of the 230-member 2014 U.S. Olympic Team by the United States Olympic Committee, Utah’s Olympic legacy continues to shine with 55 athletes heading to Sochi, Russia sharing ties to the state. Utah is also proud to have ties to 11 Paralympic athletes, official team announcements are scheduled for mid-February.

·         8 Olympic athletes and 4 Paralympic athletes officially listed Utah cities as their “hometown”
·         13 Olympic team athletes studied at a high school, college or university in Utah
·         34 Olympic athletes and 7 Paralympic athletes currently reside in the state of Utah
