ALTA LODGE CELEBRATES 75 YEARS AS ALTA’S FIRST SKI LODGE

September 21 2015

Alta, UT— Since 1940, Alta Lodge has been one of the few mountain inns in North America still operating in the great ski lodge tradition. A ski vacation at Alta Lodge means ski-in and ski-out access to Alta Ski Area, a cozy room, terrific food and friendly staff – allowing guests to relax and enjoy the Lodge, the food, the company and the skiing. Beginning November 29, 2015, the Lodge will be marking 75 years as Alta’s first ski lodge.

“During our Diamond Anniversary celebration, we’re looking forward to connecting with our long-time Alta Lodge friends and past employees, as well as new friends who have yet to experience a ski vacation with us,” said Alta Lodge CEO Marcus Dippo. He added, “So many stories have been told over the years about skiing at Alta and staying at Alta Lodge.  We want to remember and retell those stories as part of commemorating our history of 75 years.”  For the anniversary, Alta Lodge is offering one night’s stay, including breakfast and dinner, at the Lodge’s 1940 room rate to guests who book a four-night stay during the period of November 29 to December 13, 2015.

Bill Levitt bought Alta Lodge in 1959, and the Lodge is still owned and operated by the Levitt family.  While continually improving the hotel facilities, they are committed to maintaining the essence of the traditional Lodge experience. Bill Levitt often commented, "So many people have been coming to Alta for so long that it has become their home away from home. It's important that we help them maintain that feeling." Tradition at Alta Lodge has been maintained in part by a great number of returning guests. Seventy percent of the Lodge's guests return each year, and many have been coming for 30 or 40 years. It's not uncommon for three generations of one family to gather at Alta Lodge for their annual ski trip. In addition to family ties, lasting friendships spanning the continent have been formed.

A day at Alta Lodge begins with a hearty breakfast in the dining room. Lodge guests pick up lift tickets at the front desk and ski out the door to Alta Ski Area. Alta is world famous for powder skiing and steep tree runs, but also offers a wide array of beginner and intermediate skiing. At day’s end, guests return to the Lodge on skis, gather around the fireplace, relax in the Sitzmark Club, and join family and friends for a fine dinner at the Lodge. The Lodge’s young guests are invited to participate at no charge in Alta Lodge Kids' Club, which includes transportation to and from Alta Ski School and après ski activities at the Lodge, followed by a kids' dinner and after-dinner activities.
