DEER VALLEY RESORT HOSTS OLYMPIC SELECTION EVENTS; CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF INTERNATIONAL COMPETITIONS

DEER VALLEY RESORT; PARK CITY, UTAH (September 21, 2017) – Deer Valley welcomes the world’s best aerial and mogul skiers to its slopes January 10-12, 2018 for the 2018 Visa Freestyle International. The competitions will serve as U.S. selection events for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, February 9-26, 2018. This year also marks 20 years that Deer Valley Resort has played host to international and world competitions, including the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, two World Championships and 16 World Cups.

“Held at night under the lights, this spectator-friendly competition is a unique display of skill and athleticism,” said Bob Wheaton, president and chief operating officer of Deer Valley Resort. “This year’s World Cup also serves as a great warm up for Deer Valley hosting the 2019 FIS Freestyle World Championships in conjunction with Park City Mountain and Solitude Mountain Resort.”

Visiting guests of the World Cup will watch as competitors twist, fly and race their way to the podium on the same runs used during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The freestyle competition begins Wednesday evening, January 10, with men’s and women’s mogul competitions scheduled on Champion ski run at 7 p.m. and another men’s and women’s mogul competition on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Friday night brings the flight of the men’s and women’s aerial competition held on White Owl ski run at 8 p.m. Finals for all disciplines will take place each evening, with firework displays concluding each night. Each discipline will also be filmed and televised on NBC and NBC Sports Network.

For an enhanced spectator experience, Freestyle Feast VIP tickets are available for both mogul competitions and the aerial competition. Tickets provide special access to the on-hill events, a gourmet buffet, beverages in the VIP tent and a commemorative gift. Tickets are $100 per person, per event and can be purchased by calling 435-645-6510 beginning Monday, November 27. Quantities are limited and guests may purchase up to six tickets per evening on a first-come, first-served basis.
