Music in the Mountains

Last year, Summit Powder Mountain hosted seven musicians for two weeks, during which we performed Dvorak American String Quartet, Beethoven String Quartet Opus 59. No. 1;  

Marc O'Connor Appalachian Waltz, Mozart Flute Quartet, Arvo Part Fratres, and Schumann Piano Quartet.  For the artists this was a truly inspiring two weeks, and the enthusiasm and connection to the audience in this breahtaking and unique setting made for unforgettable concert experiences.

Music in the Mountains offers our musicians a retreat-like residency.  This opportunity to rehearse in such a beautiful setting fosters musical work at the deepest level.  The Music in the Mountains series attracts some of the most compelling classical artists worldwide, and we are so excited to see this series grow in the future.  We are especially thrilled to collaborate with Utah Symphony's Associate Concertmaster this summer, Kathryn Eberle, along with my other incredible colleagues from the East Coast.  I have a long list of inspiring artists from all over the world who are eager to come make music here in Eden!

This summer our program features two incredible American Composers: John Adam's Shaker Loops is a visceral work that will be thrilling to play and hear outdoors, and the beautiful and contemplative Barber Adagio.  The musicians and I can not wait to spend the week delving deeply into Schubert's String Quartet, beloved among all string players.  This summer we are also planning some local outreach during our residency.
