Park City Institute Presents Eileen Ivers Christmas

November 12 2015

PARK CITY, UT –“The Jimi Hendrix of the violin” (The New York Times), Eileen Ivers wields her fiery bow with breath-taking – and foot-stomping – wizardry, Saturday, December 12 at The Eccles Center. The electrifying fiddle player and her band of impeccable musicians celebrate the holidays with a mix of Celtic and “American” (pop-jazz-Afro-Latin-and more) influences. The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and information are available via the box office, 435-655-3114 or online at www.EcclesCenter.org.

An original musical star of “Riverdance,” founding member of Cherish the Ladies, nine-time All-Ireland Fiddle champion (and collaborator with artists ranging from Sting to the Chieftains), the Grammy-winning Ivers and her band unleash a show with unstoppable energy and exhilarating sound. A “sensation” (Billboard magazine), the Bronx-raised daughter of Irish immigrants has developed a sparkling and brilliant repertoire that bridges cultures with genre-crossing tunes, but also delivers authentic, generations-old Irish songs, complete with jigs, reels and eyes-a-smilin.’

Ms. Ivers has graced The Eccles stage in the past with her genre-blending, “dazzling show of virtuoso playing” (The Irish Times). This December, she comes to Park City with a seasonally inspired show, Eileen Ivers Christmas. The heart-warming collection of original tunes and holiday favorites ranges from the gospel-infused “Go Tell It On The Mountain” and the Gaelic classic “Don Oiche Ud i mBeithil” (“One Night in Bethlehem”) to a jig-ified version of Bach's “Jesu Joy” and “The Little Drummer Boy” (performed on the traditional bodhran goat skinned drum).

“This is a holiday show for all ages and stages,” says PCI executive director Teri Orr. “Eileen Ivers and her band put on a spectacular show that truly makes you want to get up out of your seat and do a little jig. And they’ve struck a perfect balance between soul-touching, tear-in-eye traditional songs and slightly more impish, adventurous tunes. The end result is pure joy, which is pretty apt for the season.”

Eileen Ivers is slated to participate in PCI’s Student Outreach Program on Friday, December 11.*

*Press: If you are interested in attending/photographing the outreach, please give PCI advance notice in order to clear media presence with schools.
