Powder Mountain: Music on the Mountain

June 23 2015

Powder Mountain Resort and Summit Powder Mountain are excited to announce the second annual ‘Music in the Mountains’ concert on July 18, 2015.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of chamber music atop Powder Mountain.  Michelle Ross, violinist and Curator of the series, will be joined by seven of the most exciting young classical musicians in the country: Utah Symphony’s Associate Concertmaster Kathryn Eberle, violinist Areta Zhulla, violist Caitlyn Lynch, cellist Jia Kim, cellist/composer Paul Wiancko, and bassist/composer Douglas Balliett.

Trained at Juilliard by distinguished violinist Itzhak Perlman, violinist and composer Michelle Ross performs at the major halls and festivals across the U.S. and Europe, and is a frequent artist at Marlboro Music Festival.  As a composer she frequently creates multimedia and collaborative works.

This young and compelling group will perform a concert that includes contemporary American composer John Adams ‘Shaker Loops,’ for seven strings, and the sublime Cello Quintet of Franz Schubert.

‘Chamber music was originally meant to be played among friends, in one’s living room.  With Music in the Mountains, Powder Mountain has become our ‘living room.’  In the true spirit of chamber music, this series brings together great artists in a unique setting, for a profound and intimate sharing of ideas.  It is with great joy that we return to Summit Powder Mountain to share this beloved music with the community,” says Ross.

The exceptional venue is a winter resort that towers over Ogden Valley.  Powder Mountain is the perfect location with 360 degrees views of surrounding valleys and States.  The setting, amidst wild flowers, pines and aspens, will make this an unforgettable string septet concert.  Powder Mountain is located only 60 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City and about 20 minutes from Ogden City.

The concert will be performed outdoors of Timberline Lodge, at the top of State Road 158.  The harmony begins at 6 pm, although be sure to arrive a bit earlier for tapas and drinks.  Admission is free.
