SNOWBIRD TO HOST TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE VIEWING PARTY

SNOWBIRD, UT – As the premiere astronomical event in decades nears, Snowbird is offering a special viewing event on Monday, Aug 21. The Aerial Tram at Snowbird will run early for those who wish to view the solar eclipse from Hidden Peak. The first 100 attendees will receive a complimentary pair of eclipse viewing glasses.

 “We are excited to host a special event at Snowbird where families can view the total solar eclipse,” says Dave Fields, General Manager of Snowbird.

On Monday, 21, Snowbird will operate the Aerial Tram starting at 9:30 a.m., in order to deliver guests up to Hidden Peak in preparation for the eclipse. Tram tickets for eclipse viewing party are $24 for adults, $20 for children and seniors, and free for children 6 years old and younger. Customers are encouraged to buy in advance at snowbird.com for best pricing. Once guests arrive at Hidden Peak, they will enjoy unobstructed views of the northern sky.

Snowbird also has a limited number of eclipse viewing glasses for sale at The Summit, Cliff Sundries and Center Sundries. These glasses are Baader Solar Viewer AstroSolar Silver/Gold, a premium product allowing for a true viewing of the sun’s color (white not red), are ISO certified and NASA recommended. Regular polarized sunglasses do not offer sufficient protection; attending guests are responsible for guaranteeing the quality of their eye protection.

To better serve Snowbird guests on Monday, 21, the Snowbird ticket office will open at 9 a.m. and The Summit restaurant and retail shop will open at 9:30 a.m. The Summit will offer snacks and drinks starting at 9:30 a.m.; lunch service at The Summit begins at 11 a.m.

For a total eclipse to take place, the sun, moon and Earth must be in a direct line. The last time this rare planetary phenomenon occurred in North America was 1970.  Viewing the total solar eclipse from the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon is expected to be exceptionally stunning as the shadows and light move in and out.
