Not all Ski-In/Ski-Out Lodging is Created Equal

While most special moments defy planning, you can create the opportunity, especially with the right lodging.
Not all Ski-In/Ski-Out Lodging is Created Equal

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.” ― Kurt Vonnegut

Reflect back on poignant moments in your life. Were they planned or spontaneous? Often it’s the latter. However, they needed an opening to happen…the stage was set, but the moment was impromptu.

There’s an art to planning a vacation that sets the stage for extraordinary moments. It includes blocking time in your itinerary for spontaneity, being intentional about lodging choices and keeping the logistics effortless.

There’s an art to planning a vacation that sets the stage for extraordinary moments.

For example, I was riding the lift with a couple who shared that their young grandson showed up at the breakfast table that morning dressed in pajamas, ski boots and goggles. We were all giggling at the thought! A moment like that requires a space where kids can be…kids.

A ski-in/ski-out property is a brilliant pick when traveling with children or non-skiers because it offers flexibility. Imagine enjoying après ski while watching your family build a snowman, throwing down in a snowball fight, or simply immersing themselves in wintery play. Staying on mountain also allows everyone to gather for lunch, or swap turns caring for young children.

But not all ski-in/ski-out lodging is created equal. Some are simply sleeping quarters, while others allow you to make the most of every hour by providing exceptional amenities and service. The ability to prepare meals together in a well-stocked kitchen, roast marshmallows over a fire, or simply cuddle on a comfy sofa, adds quality time to each day.

I recently spoke with Cori Pepelnjak of Natural Retreats about their Park City properties and was pleasantly surprised when she focused on the importance of “special moments in between” planned activities and how they often lead to the most priceless memories. She was firmly planted on my soapbox! Cori went on to share how the right lodging and thoughtful service supports those moments.

Empire Pass Lodging

Ski-in/ski-out homes, condos and townhomes in Empire Pass offer privacy, mountain-modern décor and commanding views. Thanks to the mid-mountain location at Deer Valley Resort, you’ll also have quick access to the most popular Deer Valley runs.

For unparalleled access to Flagstaff Mountain terrain, the Ironwood Townhomes are an excellent choice. These 4-bedroom homes feature gourmet kitchens, private hot tubs, gas fireplaces, ski lockers, and home theatres. With the Northside Express chairlift just feet away, skiers in your group can choose from beginner greens to the expert terrain of Daly Chutes.

For even more privacy and space, a residence may be the answer. With accommodations for up to 16 guests, Northside Villa is configured for large families -- cousins, aunts, and uncles included. Two master suites and a kids’ bunk room ensure everyone gets the “good” room. A projector screen theater, four Apple TVs, game room with Xbox 360, Wii, and a retro arcade room ensure all ages stay entertained even when you take a break from the slopes. To make the most of every day on the mountain, rejuvenate in the private hot tub while soaking in the big mountain views.

If relaxed entertaining is in your plans, check out the slopeside Ski Utah Home, named because it’s a favorite of the Ski Utah team and where they host their annual holiday party. The home boasts spacious living and dining areas, a wet bar, grilling area, and even a stadium-seat theater. Ski right out your door from this true ski-in, ski-out home, which sits about five GS turns above the Northside Express chairlift. Share your favorite moments from the day around the fire pit over hot cocoa (or hot toddies), or simply stargaze from your private hot tub.

For a truly seamless experience, you may prefer Silver Strike Lodge. The convenient ski locker room, located steps from the high-speed Silver Strike Express chairlift, comes stocked with espresso and cocoa, and at the community lounge the fireplace is always crackling. Guests also enjoy a fitness suite with a sauna, oversized hot tub, and a ski beach area with lounge chairs around a cozy fire pit.
