We've all been there. Trying to find a parking place in a busy lot or simply looking for a convenient place to drop the family off before parking. No one likes to spend time worrying about where they'll park before a day on the slopes, so we've done our research to make your resort arrival a bit easier. Before we dive into parking, here are a few tips to avoid parking altogether.
Carpool with others
If you are wanting to save on a parking fee or the headache of taking your own car, but your pals aren’t readily available to head to the resort, try out one of the many carpooling apps like Waze Carpool.
Ride the UTA Ski Bus
The Ski Bus picks up at several locations throughout the Salt Lake Valley and beyond including special park and ride lots. The UTA Ski Bus takes riders directly to the following resorts: Alta Ski Area, Snowbird, Solitude Mountain Resort, Brighton, Sundance Mountain Resort, Powder Mountain and Snowbasin Resort. Many resort season passes and the Ikon Pass all offer FREE UTA Ski Bus fares for their passholders. Find more information on riding the ski bus here.
For the 2022–23 season, Alta will require a parking reservation for $25 on weekends (including Fridays) as well as during holiday periods. For those who purchase an Alta day pass, parking is only $10. If you're more of an afternoon skier, you are in luck. No reservations will be required any day after 1 p.m. If you are up for dawn patrol in the backcountry, you can find information about reserving your early morning parking spot here. Your Alta season pass and/or Ikon Pass comes with a free UTA ski bus pass, and carpoolers (3+ passengers) can take advantage of preferred parking! Alta will be releasing advanced parking reservations starting in late October and will release parking spaces every Sunday afternoon during the winter season. Learn more about Alta's Paid Parking here.
Parking at Snowbird frequently fills up, so the best choice is to secure your spot is through a paid reservation. Snowbird offers a variety of parking options, from their Preferred Parking Pass and valet to $25 parking reservations and free first-come parking. Snowbird hopes to once again make carpooling a priority for vehicles with 4+ passengers by providing expanded carpool-only parking areas at all the entry points. They also ask that guests and employees avoid driving single-occupancy vehicles and they include free UTA bus passes for all-season passholders and employees. With so many options, it's best to visit the Snowbird Parking page to evaluate the best option for you.
Brighton offers free parking but is known to fill up very quickly. You can guarantee a spot at Brighton by reserving one of their 120 VIP parking spaces between Great Western and Explorer for $30. We suggest carpooling and taking the UTA Ski bus whenever possible or arriving at off-peak times (before 8 a.m. and after 1 p.m.).
You see, the concept of having to pay for parking is to encourage friends to hop in the same vehicle, and ride along together. The more people who ride together, the lesser the total fee. Not only will you be saving money on your parking, by carpooling with friends, but you will feel good about making earth-friendly decisions. The UTA Ski Bus also runs dozens of routes a day up Big Cottonwood Canyon. Check out more information here.
In keeping with their long history of conservation efforts, Sundance has introduced winter paid parking for select lots for cars with 1-3 occupants on weekends and holidays. It's not unheard of for the parking lots to fill up on busier days, which is a great time to take advantage of the UTA Ski Bus Service route that services Sundance.
