Since opening for skiing in the winter of 1964/1965, Brian Head Resort has accumulated thousands of loyal friends and family that are eager to celebrate its 50th birthday on Saturday, December 20th. The Resort is anticipating one of its biggest celebrations.

With VIPs in attendance, the family-friendly party will begin at noon with a ribbon cutting ceremony and christening of the Resort’s new high-speed lift, the Giant Steps Express. The new lift will be closed for a quick fifteen minutes as guests gather around to join in honoring the Resort’s newest addition.

“We have a lot to celebrate!” said marketing and sales manager Krista Wiekamp. “We have grown tremendously in our fifty years, and we continue getting better every year, especially over the past two years, with over $6 million in improvements. I encourage everyone to come see what’s new.”

The event will include live music featuring band Safety Orange from California starting at 2p.m. and again at 5:00 p.m. in the Last Chair Saloon located on the third floor of the Resort’s Giant Steps Lodge.  There will be prize giveaways throughout the day, a fire performer will entertain guests at dusk, and free birthday cake will be served in the Last Chair Saloon.

Guests will have the opportunity throughout the season to ride the golden chair on the Giant Steps Express for a chance to win a swag bag full of Brian Head Resort goodies.

In addition to the new Giant Steps Express, the Blackfoot lift, one terrain park, and the Giant Steps tubing hill are also currently open. Night skiing and tubing is available at Giant Steps on Friday and Saturday nights from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Pending opening of additional lifts and terrain, lift tickets are currently only $30 for adults and $21 for kids and seniors.
