Four Feet in Four Days!

By Powderhound Matt Jan 7, 2017
It has snowed four feet in the past four days! It's been insane! What's even crazier there is so much more on the way.
Four Feet in Four Days!

In recent memory there hasn't been a storm cycle similar to the one we are currently skiing. With over four feet of snow in the last week the skiing has just been all time. What's truly remarkable about the pattern that we are in, is that there is the potential for an additional four feet of snow next week as well.  Currently, we are under another Winter Storm Warning for an additional 1-2 feet of snow above 8000 feet through 10 pm Monday! The wild thing, there are two more systems directly on the heels of the one that is currently knocking at our door.

The snow stake in my own back yard currently sits just shy of a settled 30 inch depth.  By comparison, this time last year we were sitting at around 24" at 6700 feet of elevation and that was after a pretty incredible December period as well. I know you guys all follow Wasatch Snow Forecast and if you've read any of his recent blogs about our snow pack you've seen that we are almost at 130% of normal snow pack and those figures came out almost a week ago, so that's before all the snow we got last week.

What I'm getting at, is that the skiing and riding conditions are just out of control right now! It's not just happening in the normally extra snowy areas of Little Cottonwood Canyon.  Normally, when I post videos of skiing super deep powder, more often than not I'm over at Alta Ski Area. I'm sad to say this, but this year I've only skied Alta a handful of times because I haven't had to. The snow has blessed all the resorts equally this year. Here are some snowfall figures for you based on Sat January 7, 2017

Deer Valley 166" YTD Snowfall, 78" base

Alta             187" YTD Snowfall, 74"base

Snowbird    194"YTD Snowfall,  76" base

Solitude      215" YTD Snowfall, 77" base

Pow Mow   185" YTD Snowfall, 68" base

Brighton     230" YTD Snowfall, 79" base

Enjoy the video I shot over the past couple days. The majority of this footage was shot at Deer Valley Resort.  The Bluebird sunny portion was shot at Park City Mountain on Friday, January 6th.

Enjoy!
