Is Your Gear Ruining Your Skiing?

by Powderhound Cat October 28 2013 0 Comments

Hey there ski buddies. We are less than month away from fresh turns. If you're like me, that means it's all you're talking about, and also all you're freaking out about...wall sits anyone?

Beyond the stoke, the movies, and the little flurries we've witnessed, I start thinking about gear.

I'm such a girl I need to assess my style. What will my look be? Did last year's pants survive the tree lashing I gave them? Does this new coat match at least half my beanie collection?

But I also love the tech stuff. And here are my tips for where to splurge this season.

Great goggles. I am obsessed with goggles for one reason and one reason alone. I think my nose is weird. Seriously, half the goggles I've ever tried on smoosh my face. It can be distracting to say the least. So no matter how tempted you are, don't go with the one size fits all ten dollar bin gaper deal. My Smith IOs don't fog up don't leak and don't give me lines around my eyes. Foggy goggles are the worst. In weather it's impossible to clean them and you're the guy running inside missing laps. Don't be that guy.

Magic gloves. It's sort of our job over here to tweet from the mountain. But I'm not alone. More and more of you are suffering from freezing fingers trying to find your kids. Buy the thin liners that are everywhere now and solve this problem this winter! They even have these crazy rad gloves out now that you can use a touch screen smart phone with. Does it get any better than that?

The perfect boot. We talk a lot about fit and comfort. I think your skiing well depends on a solid foundation. If you've skied the same boots for years, it may be time to invest in an upgrade. In fact, they may be what is holding you back. A bad boot opens the door to poor form, soreness and resistance to progression, since you can't be aggressive.

I think I'm getting a new coat and new boots this year. What are you investing in? What is your dream piece of gear?

*Let it snow*
