Jodi's favorite things: December deals and Kids skiing free!

I'm all about getting a deal.  If you have a family, you are constantly trying to cut corners, save money and still have fun and get your kids out.  Since my kids are still young, I want to get them out skiing as much as possible.  What many of you may not know is at some resorts, they ski free depending on their age!  In December, resorts also have great deals out there for those who want a family Christmas vacation.

With winter in full swing and another 12"+ storm under our belts, it's time to start planning.  And...more storms are lining up through December!

AltaAfter 3 pm, you can ski the lower part of Albion for $10 every day or only $5 to reload your card!  This is a perfect way to get the kids learning to ski without spending a fortune.  Sometimes kids can only go an hour or two before they give up.  I've talked to many families that have done this and they said by the time their kids built up their stamina, then they would start buying full day passes.  This is for any age.

Beaver Mountain:  I've heard one of the best kept secrets in Utah.  This year I hope to find out first hand!  A very affordable place to ski!

Brian Head:  Has some of the most affordable ticket prices in the country.  It is located in southern Utah and when you're done skiing, you can extend your vacation by a few days and enjoy Zion or Bryce.

Brighton:  Loving Brighton!  I think Brennan thinks he owns the place.  He marches in with his snowboard and takes over...  2 children 7 and under with a paying adult ski free! Great for when you want to run up to the resort.  Grab you a ticket and tell them you have 2 little guys like I do.  They get their ticket and away you go.  There is also a Dec/Jan lodging special you must check out.  A low key great resort with tons of intermediate terrain for all ages to ski.

Canyons: LOTS of deals here!  Kids 6 and under ski FREE!  Yep, get yourself a lift ticket and ask for a complimentary ticket for your little one/ones.  Also new this year, if you purchase your lift tickets online ahead of time, you get a 51% savings!!  That is such a great deal for planning ahead.  You also must link to this:  it is a hot deals page and will give you lodging deals, extra night free lodging and fun family adventure deals.  For the month of December, there are many apre ski activiites set up to entertain the kids.  You can sit back and relax and watch the kids have a ball!

Deer Valley:  If you love being pampered and skiing great groomed slopes, this is your mountain!  Right now there are fabulous deals running for those planning an early Christmas present for the family.  You can save up to 20% on lodging before the holidays and also have the kids ski free with these packages!  Check here for the December calendar.  Santa comes for a visit on Christmas Eve and also a wonderful torchlight parade on December 30th!  I can't say enough about the childrens center for daycare and ski lessons.  My blog from last season wraps that up!  I have to say one of Brennans favorite ski instructors he still talks about was at Deer Valley.

Eagle Point:  Another southern Utah resort and also the newest resort.  Kids 6 and under ski FREE!  You have the little guys and they only want to ski an hour or two, you haven't wasted money.  It has some of the longest tubing runs.  And, get this...if you're from California, you ski free all season!  In January, anyone skis free on Thursdays!  Wow, must have this on my list this year for sure!

Park City Mountain Resort:  Kids 6 and under ski FREE!  You can either go up to the ticket window and grab a day pass or you can just get a season pass with a $5 processing fee for the little fellas!  There are many options for apres ski activities for the little guys or just off the snow.  There are many package deals and especially some great early season deals to save on lift tickets!

Powder Mountain:  Tucked away in northern Utah, a great place to find untracked snow and low ticket prices.  Kids 6 and under ski free with a paying adult!!  For you Utah residents, you can get a discount during the week!  For those a bit more adventurous, the Powder Safari is you kind of deal!  Or you can do a Sunset Safari for a dining/snowcat experience.  Another, must try this year!

Snowbasin:  Kiddos 6 and under ski FREE with a paying adult!  Loving these deals for the families.  No better way to go if you have little guys.  There is always fun things happening.  Check out the calendar.  There is also a lovely Christmas Eve dinner.  Something to think of as a new family tradition!

Snowbird: Kiddies 6 and under are FREE!  Lots of specials going on right now.  Christmas Dine and Stay may be up your alley where you get a night and dinner!  Also, snowmobile into Mineral Basin!  Stay tuned for an awesome story I did on the snowguns and snowmaking at Snowbird.  Coming in a future post!

Solitude:  Kiddles 6 and under are FREE! This is a very good secret.  When a lot of the other resorts are packed, you can always show up and get some great skiing in.  Another great thing, lets say you only want to do 3 runs and that would be crazy to buy a day ticket.  Here you can buy ride tickets.  You can pay by the chairlift ride and then come back when you want to go a little more!  Ice skating, I'm all over this!  There is also good deals on lodging and tickets right now to jump on!

Sundance:  Beautiful!  One of the most beautiful backdrops on the planet.  Kiddies 5 and under ski FREE!  There are also lodging packages right now!  You can book lodging and ski free. If you have never stayed here...it is a must on your bucket list.  Very romantic and tucked away.  OK, if you have the kids in tow, maybe not too romantic, but the best programs for art at the art shack.  There is also exploring at night on snowshoes or cross country skis during a full moon!  Oh oh, my list just got longer.

Wolf Mountain: A gem of a family resort with a lot of beginner/intermediate terrain for the little guys just learning.  Also, great ticket prices.

That sums it up!  So many choices, so little time!  Let me know if you have any more deals to add.

A few items to mention:  I've already mentioned the deals...how about winning stuff!!!!  The Ski Yeti is giving away bling for 10 days!  Click this link to join!

I want to give some love to Ski' N See.  It is where I shop for all my kids helmets/gloves/jackets and rentals.  They have a fabulous rental system you can do online ahead of time so you don't need to be waiting in line at the shop!

I'm sure you have all lost sleep over the mitten dilemma.  Hold your breath...Brennans hands stayed warm in his new Burton gloves.  Emily....heading to Ski' N See TODAY for new ones!
