Sat., March 23: North Mississippi Allstars: North Mississippi Allstars is a Southern rock/blues band from Hernando, Mississippi, founded in 1996. The band is composed of brothers Luther Dickinson (guitar, vocals) and Cody Dickinson (drums, keyboards, electric washboard), and Chris Chew (electric bass guitar). Allstars' first release, Shake Hands With Shorty, was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Contemporary Blues Album". In 2007, Luther Dickinson joined The Black Crowes as lead guitarist and has appeared on their last three albums.
Sun., March 24: Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band: Deeply rooted in funk and fully committed to the ongoing evolution of the genre, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band has the power and soul to create lasting melodies and seismic rhythms. The group has been together for a decade, performing well over 150 shows and completing three to four national tours each year. A new album is in the works at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC (projected release date: March 2013).
Sat., March 30: Toots & The Maytals: Toots and The Maytals are considered legends of ska and reggae music, so much so that their 1968 single “Do the Reggae” was widely credited with coining the word “reggae”. The band won the 2005 Grammy award for best reggae album with True Love, a record consisting of re-recorded versions of their classics alongside popular and legendary musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards, as well as popular artists today such as No Doubt, Ben Harper, The Roots, and Shaggy. Don’t miss the opening act, Paa Kow’s By All Means Band, a danceable fusion of West African and American rhythms.
Sun., March 31: Eufórquestra: Originally from Iowa City, IA, Eufórquestra (think Euphoria+Orchestra) relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado in August 2008 and has made a splash with its progressive, genre-bending funk fusion and a relentless tour schedule. Eufórquestra is quickly spreading its unique, rhythmic blend of sound, integrating such genres as Afrobeat, Reggae, Funk, Soukous, Soca, Salsa, and Dub. As the band puts it, “we just want to make people dance.”
