Canyons Resort & Christian Center of Park City Announce Holiday Food Drive Amidst Urgent Need

November 19, 2012

PARK CITY, UT (November 19, 2012) –  With more than 5,000 Summit and Wasatch County families likely to call upon the services of the region’s largest food pantry this holiday season, Canyons Resort and Christian Center of Park City are stepping forward to help alleviate the need beginning on Canyons’ Opening Day:  Friday, November 23rd.

For the first month of the 2012/13 ski season (through Fri., Dec. 21), Canyons Resort will host a food drive with the goal of collecting at least 9,990 pounds of non-perishable food and baby items such as canned food, rice, dried beans, diapers, and more.

“As we make plans for the holidays, my team and I would like to ask our guests and our community to consider those who are less fortunate,” said Mike Goar, Canyons’ managing director. “We are collecting non-perishable items at some of our highest traffic locations, including Base Camp (at the parking lot / base of the Cabriolet lift), our hotel lobbies and restaurants like The Farm.”

Canyons is appealing to its guides (employees), guests, vendors, media partners and others to contribute.

“We have already served 41,000 people this year in Summit and Wasatch counties, as well as neighborhoods in need in Salt Lake County,” said Rob Harter, executive director of Christian Center of Park City. “We serve Kamas, Oakley, Heber, Coalville and other towns, in addition to Park City.  The demand increases during the winter so we are grateful that Canyons will help us meet this need.”

The most needed items, Harter said, include:

White Rice

Cooking Oil

Non-refrigerated juice

Canned Soup

Dried beans

Macaroni & Cheese

Peanut Butter

Jelly

Diapers

Baby Formula

Baby Food

Baby Wipes
